Good results: 5 years post- UFE

I had a UFE about 5 years ago at the age of 43. Within the first six months, my period continued to get lighter and lighter, but more unstructured, and I also lost about 10 pounds. The cramps and heavy bleeding stopped and I felt so good. However, about a year or so after the UFE, I started dealing with night sweats, panic attacks, and bouts of depression.

Looking back, I believe this was due to hormonal changes due to my shrinking fibroids and diminishing period. My doctor even put me on anti depression medication for about 6 months. Now, at 48 my period has stopped completely (I'm happy about that). Occasionally, I will spot for two or three days, but most of the time I don't bleed at all. According to my GYN, I have not gone through menopause, but I am definitely going into the pre-menopausal stage now.

All that being said, I would definitely recommend the UFE if your fibroids are causing you constant pain, heavy bleeding, anemia, etc. But if you are over 40, be advised, you will probably deal with hormonal issues for about 6 months to a year. Still, for me, it was worth it.
