looking for info (childbirth mentioned)

I am 21 days post-op after delivering baby, failed d&c, and emergency hysterectomy. Being on maternity floor I was not exactly given all that much hysterectomy info, more about baby care and post delivery care. They took my uterus and part of my cervix. I am wondering if anyone knows of a book or some other form of info that would relate to my situation. I feel slightly out of place in every area I look.
I think my incision (from belly button down as they needed more room to take out deformed uterus) is healing just fine, it's the internal stuff and the discharge that I am interested in.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: looking for info (childbirth mentioned)

Mandambru -

I am glad that you found us and you are in a perfect place. We have had several members in your situation.

There are some hysterectomy books out there but I wouldn't know which ones to recommend. You could use the Search feature and type in Books or Hysterectomy Books and see if anything pops up for you.

Also you can look through the post-op articles and menu. The Post-Op menu is at the top of the screen in the blue bar. You can get to the articles from that menu or if you look in the upper right you will see a Tab marked Articles and if you click on it you will see Post-Op listed.

Additionally on the blue bar go to the very first menu item which is the Hysterectomy Checkpoints. That will give you some information related to your initial recovery period of 6 weeks.

Finally join in the Recovery Progress Thread for your week of recovery. You can share with others who had surgery at the same time and are working their way through initial recovery. Look in the Post-Op forum at the top and you will see a thread for your week of surgery. Make sure you get the right week since we have threads for each week of the year.

Re: looking for info (childbirth mentioned)

Mandambru, it sounds like we had a similar experience, except I hemorrhaged right after childbirth but D&C stopped the bleeding at that time. 7 1/2 weeks later I had a near fatal hemorrhage and had to have emergency hyster to save my life. I didn't get a lot of info from my hospital either, I started bleeding lightly a few days after coming home and freaked out because no one told me it was completely normal! How are doing taking care of baby and recovering? I took care of Jonah with no help (fiance had to go back to work on overnight shift day after I got out of hospital) and somehow managed. Was this your first baby? I hope you are doing OK, please ask away if you have questions, I learned most everything I needed to know here!
