Binder support post TLH???

Is binder support post TLH helpful for discomfort and belly swelling? No mention of need for one from MD. Would like opinion from those who used one. Thanks!

Re: Binder support post TLH???

Hi Iduggan,
While I was given one in the hospital, they told me it wasn't medically necessary. I wore it the first few days, especially for sleeping because it really alleviated the pain when I was sleeping. I haven't worn it since...it actually made it really hard to breathe.

My surgery was done robotically and I only have one incision in my belly button and I think if I had a big incision or several small incisions I would have worn it more because it did help with the pain.

Good luck!

Re: Binder support post TLH???

I am 10 days post TLH and just started using mine. It really helps when I am riding in the car or moving around. Those times when I would really hold my belly, like bumps in car or coughing/sneezing, it has really helped. I noticed also that it has helped me to be able to withstand walking around for longer periods of time without needing more medication.
Doc never said I needed or should use one either.

Re: Binder support post TLH???

Hello. I am on my 10th week of recovery and it is only now that the weather is cold, I am going full time teaching, walking to train stations....that I wonder if my friends' advise to wear a binder right after surgery was the right one. I chose to listen to my doctor and never wore one, and flew overseas this holiday (that was horrible) and back. Now I am back to work and now and then I feel pulling pain even when just turning or tossing in bed. I am wondering if I now should be wearing binders, if only for the cold and standing and walking around a lot. Thank you for your advice or comments.

Re: Binder support post TLH???

I found mine to be very uncomfortable with all my gas pain. I asked the dr if I could not wear it and she strongly advised me to wear it as much as possible because she did so much dissection so I have been. It has been a lifesavor for me. My comfort. When I do not have it on, I feel every pull and tug and am in a great deal of pain. I have such a high tolerance for pain so this surgery has taken me by surprise.

I don't think it's ever to late to reap the support benefits of wearing one. I highly recommend it and prepared ahead of time and purchased one but the one my dr gave me is more padded so I prefer that one right now.
