Spotting 9 weeks post op
I had my hysterectomy 9 weeks ago and I'm still spotting pinkish blood. How long does it normally take for the spotting to stop? Had a supracervical hysterectomy kept ovaries and cervix.

Spotting 9 weeks post op
Hi Mimi08,
I had a LSH and kept my cervix and ovaries.
From being on Hyster Sisters, I have read that it can be normal for cervix-retaining ladies to have spotting for up to 6 weeks post-op.
Possibly you are having a mini-period?? If a Hyster Sister keeps one or both ovaries and the cervix..there can be a chance of a mini-period in post-op. Generally, ladies report needing a panytliner at that time of the month.
If the spotting continues...I can say...play it on the safe side and call your Dr. A call to a Dr's office is always a good idea if there is a question.
Sending best wishes~
Mary

mimi; your surgery was a week after mine, but I didnt keep anything except my cervix, have not seen any spotting since my 3rd week....if it continues, I would call your doctor and ask....could be like Mary says, a mini period
ovarthemoon: the times you had intercourse before, did you have the pinkish fluid? if not, I would give your doctor a call and ask either way, just to make sure....are you in pain?

no pain at all, and this had not happened before this.... I have a friend who is a nurse and said I should not panic at all. But all this talk about mesh erosion has me a little concerned.

why are you worried about "mesh erosion" did you have somethings else done besides your hyster? what type of surgery did you get done? try not to worry about other things, think positive....if the spotting continues or it stops and when you have intercourse again, the spotting comes back, call your doctor and tell him.....just to be sure, but, please, in the meantime, try not to worry about it too much.
hugs being sent

Thanks for the reply. Went to the gyno, he said my spotting was normal. Claims many women spot if they keep their cervix. He cauterised me and wants me to go back in a week for a second application.
LSH, Kept ovaries

Mimi08--Just curiuos, did the DR say why they spot? Is it a mimi period, slow healing or what? I kept my cervix and I am spotting, but I think right now it is because I am only a few weeks out of surgery. Thanks.

The Doctor told me the spotting is normal because of "mini periods" and also because many women spot when they keep their ovaries. In my case I mentioned to him that I never really stopped spotting since I had the surgery 9 weeks ago so he decided to do the cauterization. Now instead of pink spotting it has turned light brown. Hopefully this is coming to an end.
I see him again next week, will keep you posted.

I kept my cervix and I spotted a little bit after the 2-3 week due to doing to much and/or stitches healing, but I am now 3 months plus and have not spotted, but my doctor cauterized my cervix during the surgery.....
