Kept one ovary - what will I experience?

Hi everyone,

I've been reading the threads of women who have kept both ovaries and seen variances in PMS symptoms and such, but has anyone retained only one ovary after their hysterectomy/oopherectomy and what has been your experience?
I am interested in:
- degree of PMS-like symtoms
- estrogen level problems (i.e. did ovary "go to sleep", shut down or over-compensate for the lost ovary?)
- emotional issues
- experience increase or descrease in skin issues (i.e. blemishes?)
- need for HRT

Thank you in advance...I am very curious!

Re: Kept one ovary - what will I experience?

Hi. I had an RSO so I wanted to follow this thread if you get any response since I have those questions as well. The dr said the one remaining looked good, so don't worry, but that is easier said than done. Thanks for posting the questions.

Re: Kept one ovary - what will I experience?

I only had one ovary and kept it with my abdominal hysterectomy. I was very hot after surgery, but this went away. HOwever, my PMS symptoms are through the roof, not sure if my ovary isn't working enough or too much. I have bad brain fog and fuzzy head feeling alot of the time, which really disturbs me. I am so forgetful. I change docs Nov 1st, so I am going in to see if I can get hormone levels drawn, I will probably be labelled as depressed and they will want to put me on a pill...... I am not a depressed person and have found myself a little down at times, but my anxiety has gone through the roof. There is another thread on here, about " did I lose my brain cells" and lots of different ppl comment, some with ovaries, some with none. I just hope this feeling goes away. Physically I feel great.
Good luck
