When does/should Dermabond for TAH incision come off?

Hi all,

I had a TAH 6 weeks ago (yay! made it to the magic 6 week mark! Final post-op this TH)

My doctor sealed up my TAH bikini incision with Dermabond. That stuff works great on me. But it is now 6 weeks and I still have the scab under the glue. A little piece came off on the side this morning. I was able to get it off and that felt much better! Otherwise, everytime I site, that scab is right where I bend.

I have never had such a large incision. Is the incision healed? How long before that glue comes off? Can I take it off?

I have never had any incision problems/infections (thank god!)

Anyone else have/had their bikini TAH closed with Dermabond and what was your experience.

Thanks, sisters!!

Re: When does/should Dermabond for TAH incision come off?

hey there, I too had a TAH with dermabond over my incision. I don't think it took long for most of the 'glue' to come off, but I too have a spot on the right side of my incision that's pinker than the rest.

During week 2, it was all puffy and I watched it carefully hoping that an infection wasn't setting in. Now at 25 days po, all the puffiness is gone, but it is still pinker than the rest.

I've been gently washing it in the shower with a soapy washcloth and could see what seemed to be old skin flaking off after drying off - that must have been the 'glue' coming off. I didn't really pick at it and let it slough off by itself.

I'm not sure if this helps you at all...just my experience and how I'm doing now...

Re: When does/should Dermabond for TAH incision come off?

Hi Lulu19,

thanks for you reply. That stuff is amazing and I am really happy they could use it on me. I am fair skinned and scar easily. They used that on me last summer when I had an exploratory lap done and you barely make out a very very thin pink line for the incisions. Hoping this does the same.

After I posted the question this morning, I went to go take my shower and after I got out, it was peeling more... so I just started working on one end. It came right up, scab included. The scab was no longer attached to the incision it seems, just held there by the glue. So I didn't feel anything. It looks and feels soooooo much better! The worst part is that there is still glue on the top of my pubic hair where they had shaved. I tried getting that out with alcohol but no luck. Just a little left though.

I am 6 weeks post-op tomorrow and it has been a long haul. Something about having the scab off the incision makes it another milestone in the right direction! Thanks again and have a great day!

Re: When does/should Dermabond for TAH incision come off?

I'm so glad it's feeling better. I too am fairskinned and scar easily - I have to be sure everyone knows no latex too as it causes me to blister and increases scaring.

Our bodies are so amazing! I understand about celebrating the little milestones too!

((((Hugs)))) from Houston!

Re: When does/should Dermabond for TAH incision come off?

When I went to my post-op appointment at 3 weeks I was told to go ahead and peel off the dermabond. I had no pain or anything when I peeled mine off. Just took the scab that was no longer attached to my belly. Hope this helps.

Re: When does/should Dermabond for TAH incision come off?

mine came off late last week, early in week three. My body is a little weird, my hair, skin, and nails grow super fast for some reason... over the years different surgeons have remarked how unusually quickly my skins heals

Now I do have a stitch actually sticking out of the incision... it's a loop, so I just try to be careful with it and make sure it's tucked into jammies or granny panties safely. I am assuming it will dissolve off at some point.
