Tests on Monday

I am having an IVP (xray of my kidneys with dye) and an air colon, on Monday. My dr. just wants to make sure there are no surprises when she gets in there, at my surgery.
I think I am more nervous for these tests than I am for the TAH/BSO, on Sept. 24th.
Maybe because they are coming up sooner! I can only have a liquid diet on Sunday with all the "cleaning out" treatments of my colon. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. My appt. isn't until 11:00 on Mon.
Has anyone else had to go through these tests? I will be glad when this hurdle is over and I am one more step to being all done and no longer a lady in waiting!

Tests on Monday

I recently had a colonoscopy. They put very happy drugs in my IV. I don't remember a thing. By the way, I only agreed to the colonscopy IF I would be put "under". I was tired but pretty much back to normal in hours.

I have had a colonscopy before without any anesthesia. I don't recommend this at all - especially if you have endo or any abdominal pain. I was not given the option of anesthesia, was 20 and knew no better. This was also before my endo was diagnosed and they were on a hunting expedition as to the reason for my abdominal pain that had recently sent me to the ER.

Since I was wide awake the first time, I can recall the procedure. Basically, they insert a tube in your rectum that expands your colon with air. Through that tube they insert a camera and feed it through your colon and have look around. The camera sends an image to a TV-like screen. Sometimes you get still photos. Sometimes the doc will show you the video. They found nothing in either of my "scopes" so I received neither. My sister had pre-cancerous colon polyps and she saw both video and still shots.

Hope this helps. Good luck and go for the happy drugs.

Tests on Monday

I had an IVP the week before my surgery to confirm that my right kidney was "misplaced"---it sits in my pelvic region. My doctor did this to ensure he knew my pelvic anatomy and would not injure my kidney during the LAVH. The procedure was not bad at all. Drinking the 2 quarts of contrast wasn't all that fun----but I managed to get it down ok. When they inject the dye in your veins you will probably feel a warm flushing feeling in you chest and bladder, which will only last a few minutes. It's wasn't uncomfortable, just a different sensation. Then they take the scans and that's it! They instructed me to drink a lot of water the rest of the day to help flush out the contrast.

It sounds like your doctor is being very thorough, which is a good thing! Let us know how you are doing after your tests.

Best wishes!
