Tazz - "Total hyst." means the uterus and cervix are taken. Women that keep one and/or both ovaries don't normally go on HRT.

I had tah/bso March 2000 and surgery and recovery were uneventful. Follow drs. orders to a "T". Key to good recovery is time, patience and REST.

Another twin!

Hey tazzz 64. I am having surgery on 8/22 also. I am having a TAH/BSO - everything has to go. Kind of like a K-Mart sale Keep your chin up. This site is great for information from women who have "been there, done that". Absolutely follow all advice and instructions from your doctor, but this site will give you real life information your doctor can't or won't. After all, how many ob/gyn's have actually had a hysterectomy? Your doctor will give you the medical aspect of hysterectomy - which is EXTREMELY important, but you can ask questions about anything on here. There are a LOT of internet sites that are very negative about hysterectomies - I found them all. But I would guess that the negative sites and books are probably written by someone who has not lived with the constant bleeding, pain, extreme tiredness of anemia, inability to function and just overall crummy feeling for months or years. You've come to a great place! Please keep in touch.
