Uncomfortable telling people I had a hysterectomy

Hi ! Well at 49 years of age I am not embarrassed by my body or thoughts ... and have learnt who in my life makes me feel better after visiting them and who are negative energy leeches ! So I told those people that are in my life that I trust and really care for me. At work legally all they need to know is your limitation and time you will be off, a secretary informed me of this when I inquired about fmla and I would of liked to share with her my surgery but did not want to put her in a spot of slipping out my story. When co workers would ask, I said it was personal, some respected that and wished me luck and others would press for information, WOW and I heard rumors of all different kinds of surgery s people "knew" I was having... which validated my decision. Thank you sisters for sharing !

Only my close friends and immediate family know i've had a hysterectomy and even fewer know it was because of cancer.

I hesitated to tell my supervisor at work the details of why I was asking for time off. She has a tendency to gossip and I did not want to be the next subject. My last day at work, I did tell her because she asked but no one else knows what I had done. One co-worker thinks I had carpal tunnel surgery and I thought it was so hilarious, I didn't correct him.

It is a very personal thing, your body, your health. That information is on a need to know basis in my world.
