I'm having several *issues* and am gathering info to ask my dr about a hysterectomy..
I'm new here, btw!
I'm 30 years old. I had my tubes tied a year and a half ago after 2 consecutive miscarriages. I've had gyno problems ever since. I'll list them:
-Heavy and long periods (though they've been regular since going on glucophage)
-VERY painful cramping...so bad I can't stand it.
-I get hot flashes before, during and shortly after my period.
-I wake up hot and sweaty at night before, during and shortly after my period....and I'm unable to get back to sleep until I can cool off (that's with my AC in 70 degrees all night and 2 fans blowing on me all night!)
-KILLER headaches prior to and the first few days of my period; my migraine/tension meds don't touch them!
- toward the end of my period I'm really tired, can't get motivated.....but last bloodwork said I wasn't anemic (about a week after my period ended). Started taking iron supplements and it's helped, but not a lot.
-I'm particularly moody...can cry or get angry at the drop of a hat....hormonal??
-I DO have a fibroid in the *meat* of my uterus.....found 2 years ago during a pelvic us when I found out I'd miscarried again.
I requested a hysterectomy after my 2nd miscarriage and the ob/gyn refused. Now I'm PRAYING for one. I truly believe that it would be best for not only my physical health, but mental health, too.
Does anyone have any experiences or info to share with me? I have another pelvic ultrasound and a saline sonohysterogram on June 10th. Any questions I should be asking the dr that I might not think of on my own?
I'd appreciate some help here. NOT looking for medical advice, but personal experiences and links or info to help me help myself!
Thanks SO much!

Hi Stacy,
I'm sorry to hear you are having all these gyno problems. It's no fun, I know.
First, here are links to a couple of our resource forums where you'll find more links to information. The first link has information on the migraine/hormone connection. The second link has information on fibroids.

You are not the first person here at Hystersisters to comment on having problems after having their tubes tied. You might want to do a search using the "Search" button above and entering the keywords "tubes tied" to check out other threads on this topic.
Many of the symptoms you describe sound like a hormone/ovary issue to me. Have you reviewed all of this with your gyn? Is there a possibility that your ovaries have not functioned properly since having your tubes tied?
You are young to be considering a hyst, so please keep reading and asking questions. I also highly recommend that you get at least one other opinion on the best course of treatment for you at this point. A hyst is major surgery. While the majority of ladies do very well after a hyst, some have complications that can be very long-lasting. Most ladies view a hyst as a last resort treatment option ... something they do only after other treatment options have failed. Have you tried any other treatments yet?
Ultimately, you need to make the decision that feels best for YOU. You'll be better prepared by doing your research first, as you suggest, and asking lots of questions. We'll do our best to provide support, whatever you decide. Keep us posted on how you are doing and what you find out at your next appointment.

Stacy:
Do you have PCOS? It sounds like it, with the fact that you're helped with Glucophage.
Adenomyosis is often found following tubal ligation. It's endometriosis which has infiltrated the uterine muscular wall, and could certainly be causing your symptoms. However, it is not easily "found" by any conventional imaging techniques...even MRI may not demonstrate it. And the only :"cure" is a hyst...something to keep in mind.
It sounds like part of your decision must also involve whether or not you keep your ovaries. This is a difficult situation -- on the one hand, you are young, and need your estrogen sources (though it sounds like you're low on estrogen anyway, from the symptoms that you describe). OTOH, especially with polycystic ovarian syndrome (which can include diabetes and insulin resistance as part of its presentation), most doctors feel that removal of both ovaries is also indicated...otherwise the hormonal problems can and often do persist.
A lot of research to be done, and I don't envy you. But you've come to the right place...for information and for support. I would also urge you to consult with a second GYN opinion, and if you do have PCOS, with an endocrinologist as well. Make sure that you understand the hormonal implications, both of your current symptoms and of surgical menopause, whether or not you do have PCOS.
A good website for PCOS information that I've found is this: www.soulcysters.com . I'm no expert on PCOS by any means, but I've seen enough of it in my patients to have done some research. And many ladies go undiagnosed for WAYYY too long...
Hope this helps,
Hugs,
Audrey
