I am scheduled for operation on June 7 due to myoma and cystic lesion of my right ovary.

My doctor is very supportive, he explained to me very well the result of all the tests, what should be done and what to expect after hysterectomy. My question is, do I still have to go to another OB-GYNE to ask for a "second opinion"?

I made a research on my case and it seems that only surgery can make me feel better.

Please advise, need some good thoughts on this.

Thanks.

My first thought is if you are wondering if you should get a second opinion, then yes, you should go for a second opinion.

You don't mention what kind of symptoms you've been having, or if any other treatments have been tried yet. A hyst should be the treatment of last resort, and most insurance companies want to make sure that it is before they will authorize surgery.

I would guess that in a good portion of instances women DO feel better after surgery, but there are exceptions, complications do occur, and if you are having both ovaries removed sometimes it takes a while to get the HRT correct. That's another reason to try alternatives first.

Symptoms

There was no medication given to me except a pain reliever which should be taken when I'm suffering from severe dysmenorrhea.

Actually, I'm a dysmenorrhea baby since I had my period. And now, there was this underlying pain on my right side which was probably caused by my fibroids and cysts including endo. My myoma is 2.8 cm and whenever I have my period my bleeding is so profuse & prolonged. And when I'm w/ my partner, there was this pain whenever he's inside me w/c troubles me as well.

My doctor told me that my left ovary will be left behind and only my uterus, right ovary and cervix will be removed. He mentioned that my life will be back to normal after my recuperation and no worry anymore, just have to be careful.

Is my decision right to undergo w/ this operation?

Any advise please!

I didn't get a second opinion. My DR is one of the best in the area. I asked several people I know - including my regular physician - and he said he'd be thrilled if my DR was operating on his wife. I really like my DR. I trust her. I found out, just by co-incidence, that she's a specialist in my condition and even trains other DR's (I was referred to my current DR from my previous GYN.) Hubby and I were so happy with my DR, the confidence we have in her actually REDUCED the pre-op stress.

I have had pain 3 weeks out of the month with heavy bleeding, not to mention pain during intercourse. A Sister had once said, You have 2 choices:
#1 Keep the problem.
#2 Take care of the problem and get on with your life.
I had a LAVH/BSO At first my GYN wanted to take the R Ovary only, but being that I had a lost of PMS pain it was my choice to have both removed, my PCP agreed- that was my second opinion. Regrerets NO WAY, I should of done this back in Dec.
Take Care
PS- Dh Dad is from Guam- Best food I have ever tasted. HMMM better go shopping.

Thank You!

To those who responded/replied, I thank you.

Your advices are very well understood and really helps. My doubts and fears are somehow alleviated and my doctor is one of the best in town and specialist in woman's sickness. I trust him and he told me that he will take care of me and the assigned anesthesiologist is also a specialist in his field of work. I know and I can feel that GOD will be with me till the time that my ordeal was finished.

And Ms. Dingaling, your sister is right, either you tolerate the pain or cure it for a better life.

Again, thanks a lot!
