Upcoming hysterectomy 1 week today (10/8) and time is not slowing down
I think I've finally come to terms with the fact that I am having a hysterectomy - I have felt so lonely in this process because at the end of the day, the decision was mine.
I kept thinking who in their right mind would choose to have major surgery when you can just live with the symptoms.
No heavy bleeding just a lot of toilet trips and discomfort and the knowledge that this fibroid is a grapefruit playing space invaders in my abdomen.
Oh and did I mention the sudden death of my father-in-law a week ago? Just to add to the stress of the situation - but you know what they say - you only get given what you can handle?!?

Re: 1 week today and time is not slowing down
Hi there. I had severe cramping every month. I had a D&C, which caused me to have more pain. I was afraid to have a hyster., but couldn't deal with the pain anymore. Living with pain or discomfort can affect the quality of life. It's been 4 years since my surgery and I'm so glad I did it. It took about 14 months to completely heal after the surgery. I have no more pain! I also had my cervix removed, but kept both ovaries. A plus that I totally didn't expect was no more PMS!
I know it's a scary procedure, especially when you read about others who may have had issues after the procedure. For me the healing process what not fun at all, but the results were incredible. You are not alone. You have a whole bunch of sisters here to help you through the process. I wish you the best of luck!
P.S - Make sure you read through the Pre-Op and Post-Op sections. They are very helpful!
Hugs,
Suzy

I am in the same boat my surgery is exactly a week away and things are going through my head. My hubby keeps saying you dont have to nobody is forcing you to. But he gets concerned with all the pain I am in. So I figure no more pain is worth it in the long run.

The way I see it is I've stepped onto a roller coaster, I'm buckled in and the ride is about to begin! I try to block out the judgemental comments from those who think they mean well but don't actually help at all and rely more on those who are more supportive. ive realised that I don't not want to do it if that makes sense?

A roller coaster is a good analogy! You've been dealing with so much. My thoughts are with you!

BelBel,
I am in the same (style of) shoes as you! Grapefruit fibroid pressing on my bladder. Have really been reluctant to do my LAVH on 10/13, but got my second opinion yesterday -- two very good surgeons concur. So...here we go!
I will be thinking of you and wishing you the very best of success. I have gotten so much out of this website (thank you, thank you, Sisters) and recommend that you keep reading and writing all the way through. I will watch for your posts! Just knowing you have support makes a HUGE difference.
Maddock, thanks for keeping in touch 4 years later! I intend to do the same -- it is of great benefit to have long term perspective.
Best wishes,
LittleLambo

Yes, time is definitely ticking! Sorry for your loss, BelBel!! I agree; it's a tough decision weighing the pros and cons;however, there is a reason why we have all decided to go through with this!! I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Wishing you good health!!! HUGS!!!
