Endometrial biopsy at pre-op
I attempted to refuse Endometrial biopsy at pre-op for LSH which was explained as needed for " because insurance requires it".
It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced and can't believe it's described as mild cramping. HA!, More like shoving a dagger up your vagina. My doctor should have honest with me about the pain AND given something to mitigate it.
I thought I was informed but this caught me off guard, I wish I would have known beforehand. I regret trusting my doctor and not just walking out to get my own information and come back more prepared.

I am so sorry you were not more informed and therefore prepared about the pain this procedure can cause. I have read many posts talking about how painful this is. I know that is really frustrating when it is not as advertised.

Re: Endometrial biopsy at pre-op
PAINFUL doesn't come close to describing it. I had one a couple years ago. It was like they were taking a corkscrew to my uterus. I had a male Dr tell it would feel like a little pinch, HA! I was sick in bed for a week from the pain.
Now I have to have another next week. I will not take a NSAIDs before, because they cause more bleeding. I have meds they have given me in the ER for my cramps, and they will be in my system prior to my biopsy and I will take some meds after. Hopefully that will help me through. I would advise anyone to be prepared.

Re: Endometrial biopsy at pre-op
That sounds hellish. A typical pap smear for me was a nightmarishly painful thing; I can't imagine going through what you've described. I'd almost recommend you grabbing the doctor by the ... well, somethings ... and telling him before he starts, "Now, we're not going to hurt one another, are we?"
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. :-( I cannot believe the negligent attitude of some doctors when it comes to pelvic and vaginal procedures.

Re: Endometrial biopsy at pre-op
(((tulcyn))) I'm sorry your endometrial biopsy was so painful. There seems to be considerable variation among women on this. I had two of them years ago and in both cases it really DID feel like a "pinch", with some slight cramping later in the day, totally manageable with a little ibuprofen.
Many insurance companies do require the biopsy pre-hysterectomy because if it comes out positive it can affect the way the surgery needs to be done and even which doctor(s) should be doing it. I would want to know that in order to be sure of having the right procedure with the appropriate precautions taken should the biopsy turn out positive.
Best wishes for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery.
(((hugs))),
-Linda

I am so sorry for what you went through, sister. As SurferBabe notes, experience is so varied that I've not dared share with women asking about what the procedure is like that . . . friends of mine have described it as everything from uncomfortable to torture. Fortunately, an in-office biopsy wasn't possible for me but I wanted to send as much sunshine and empathy about the pain it caused you. All best from Romy

Re: Endometrial biopsy at pre-op
I understand the need for the biopsy, but why on earth did they wait until the pre-op? Is there a suspicion that you have cancer or are they "just checkin"? So glad my cervix didn't cooperate, they had to give me labor inducing drugs and put me out to do a D&C. Didn't feel a thing. Sorry you got this nasty surprise so late in the game.

Re: Endometrial biopsy at pre-op
I think the biopsy pain is disgracefully handled by most doctors. I avoided getting a biopsy for more than two years because I was afraid of the pain. I've read on here that some women got valium and narcotic pain relief to take beforehand. But I wasn't offered that even though I called and cancelled because I didn't want the pain.
Then after a couple years when I had developed a tumor in my uterus and got sent to a gyn/oncologist, he did the biopsy during my exam without even telling me, and I didn't even feel it. I think because he was a surgeon maybe he was more skilled than a regular gyn.
You'd think if they can numb other areas before messing with them, they could learn to just always do something prophalactically about the pain, not just poke and see if we scream!
