4.5 weeks post op still tired

I am 37 and had a TAH with a bladder work ( a sling under it ) can't remember the term. Decided to do this because of terrible PMS.

OK, I am sorry to whine but I had my husbands help for the first week with me and the kids (boys 5 & 7), my mother's for the second. Then until last week the boys have been in camp. My MIL is here now and the guys are jumping off the walls. Problem is I am too tired to go anywhere for a long period of time (over a couple of hours). I hate that they are watching TV and video games all day. I feel so guilty, like I should be back in gear by now.

Don't get me wrong, I feel great. I am just tired. I am sleeping 10 - 12 hours at night and sometimes a nap during the day.

Is this normal??? Thanks for listening.

Kitty

Boy I wish I could sleep like that, I've had insomnia from day one, however, last night 41/2 hours staight thru....hooray. Couple of busy hours a day is about all I can handle . I have an 8 year old at home and I hate to see her watching tv all day also, so we've become readers and discuss what we read and talk about what we would like to be doing other than a whole lot of nothing. Time will heal you so just give yourself some...don't stress it's not good for you.

I had my surgeries a month after you and I am still tired also. It is all I can do to go to work and home and crash on the couch. Poor DH is not getting the pampering he is used too. I'm so grateful my kids are grown and I can send my grandkids home when I get tired. Please don't feel whiney, that is the best part of this board...we all understand!!!

I had to get off my HRT yesterday because of the problems it was causing me. I'm sure I'll be on here whining about hot flashes before long. Gyno put me on Wellbutrin and Remifemin. Hope it works for me. I am ready to feel decent again as I'm sure you are. Take Care. Vickey

Thank you all. It's weird, one day you feel energetic and the next I could sleep for days. I am taking HRT for a little while, as I am 38 and the doctor feels it is fine.

Vickey, I hope the Wellbutrin works for you. I take it along with Lexapro for that added seratonin boost. I started this combo last year. I was just taking Wellbutrin and I was crying constantly, but feeling better. So doctor combined Lexapro with it and stopped crying immediately.

I have had depression all of my life, so I have taken every antidepressant known.

Kitty -
I think the fatigue is common - . I am almost 5 weeks out - and fatigue was very much part of my life until the past few days. Now it is not as predominant - but definitely don't have the energy or zip. Yesterday I was exhausted but today feeling less tired. Please don't feel bad about the kids and the tv - it is okay. This is your time - and time to take care of you - . A few weeks of TV isn't going to harm them - and you need the rest and recovery time!
hugs

Hi Kitty,

You have had major surgery...you and your body have been through quite an ordeal. Feeling tired is your body's way of telling you that you need to rest. This recovery takes alot of energy, and your body will be healing for 6 mo. to a year. Don't be so hard on yourself. This is *your* time, and you need to rest as much as possible. TV and video games are not going to impact the boy's lives for a short period of time. They are probably having the time of their life right now, so don't sweat the small stuff honey! Let them have their time (such as it is) and you need to have yours! Rest, pamper, rest, pamper! You will be glad that you did! Trust me!

Hi Kitty,

Please remember your surgery wasn't that long ago and that it's normal to still feel this tired. Your body has been through quite a lot and it needs time to heal. Guilt about the kids watching TV etc is excess baggage you don't need at present and I'm sure when your fully recovered you'll spend some lovely time having fun with them. At this time though you need to concentrate on you.

Take care......Karen
