Re: 2 days post surgery.. Take this gas out!!
I had that too.. It is unbearable. I had a heating pad or a hot water bottle. I also would support my stomach with a pillow, seemed to help quite a bit....

Re: 2 days post surgery.. Take this gas out!!
Ya, it took me 5 days. I took the colace, restoralax, and drank so much water. I ended up stopping the pain killers just so I could go. I also started taking some senna laxative (half doses) it was not pleasant and I work very hard to avoid it now. I would talk to your pharmacist/doctors office for recommendations for laxatives as it depends on your meds....
Hope you get some relief soon. I am 2 weeks post op, and still find gas painful, but I have had a few complications so it doesn't help.

Re: 2 days post surgery.. Take this gas out!!
So, I'm 10 days post op and I was horribly constipated and gassy right after my surgery. I had to go back to the hospital day 5 because I hadn't had a BM. In the hospital they first gave me pain meds (because the struggle was real) and I ended up needing an enema. After that, things were so much better.
For you, know that you aren't alone, it's really hard, I know. Drink tons of water. Miralax is wonderful. Stay in contact with your doc. If you go more than 3days without a BM, call! Don't wait like I did, I'm sorry you're in pain, it will get better.

In addition to the walking, try peppermint tea; both of these work on constipation as well as gas. Also avoid gassy foods, at least for now; that includes beans, onions, cabbage and its relatives, asparagus, cucumbers, melons, pears, and artificial sweeteners. And what finally got my bowels moving, on day 6, was a daily green smoothie with cherries and ground flaxseeds. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Re: 2 days post hysterectomy .. Take this gas out!!
Hi Chinita01! Gas after surgery is the worst! It can last for a few days but it sounds like you are doing everything right. It is also not uncommon to have your first BM 5-7 days after surgery. As much as I hate saying "be patient", that is the key here. Unfortunately your bowels didn't like to be disturbed during surgery and now are slow to reengaged. But they will!
Also, since you had surgery this week, I invite you to join me (your Sunshine Sister) and others who had their hysterectomy this week on the recovery forum. You can post questions, update us on your progress and support your fellow sister in the forum. I have a couple of resources posted there to help you get over the Gas hump. Hope to see you there!
