Increase in pain in first week post-op

I'm calling my doc tomorrow morning for a pain med refill and will ask about this then, but in the meantime, have any of you had an increase in pain post op instead of it just decreasing?

I had TVH, TOT sling and big rectocele repair five days ago. By day three I was seeing a Decrease in pain and was even able to use less pain meds. But the night of day 4 post op I was starting to get sharp pains around rectocele repair that I chalked up to stitches and less swelling. Pain has increased again today, and I'm back at the level of pain meds I was using when I first got home.

No fever or other signs of infection, and with max dose of pain meds the pain is manageable, though I can't really sit in recliner at all now. Does this sound normal? I know rectocele repairs are usually pretty painful, so am I just being a wimp?

Re: Increase in pain in first week post-op

After I came home from the hospital, my pain got worse before it got better. I think this happened when all the anesthesia wore off and I was REALLY able to feel everything. I was able to control my pain with my meds. If yours isn't controlled by your meds, I'd definitely call your doctor. Hang in there, it gets better.

I am glad you are calling your doctor because any new pain is concerning especially if it is back to the same level as right after surgery. Please keep us posted.

Re: Increase in pain in first week post-op

Talked to the nurse this morning. She thinks I'm doing too much, which is kind of funny given how much I'm NOT doing! The good news is that as I have no other concerning symptoms, and since the level of pain I'm describing to her is consistent with what they expect after the extent of repair work I've had done, I can just watch and wait for now. I have to call immediately if there is any additional increase in pain though.
In the meantime, she says I should stick to taking max dose of pain meds and not try to taper quite yet, that I should get a donut thing to sit on when I'm in the recliner and to cut my activity and use ice packs as needed.
Rectoceles are a drag! I'll be so glad when everything is healed and I can pick up my toddler and play tag w my 6 year old and drive myself to the grocery store again!
