Red hot poker pain

Hi. I'm new here. Had TAH on January 3rd. First week I felt great. Second week I had a lot of discomfort with fluid collection above my bikini line incision. Now the third week the fluid collection is resolving but I now have 10 out of 10 pain that comes and goes below and slightly to the left of my belly button. It feels like a red hot poker stabbing me. Anyone feel this type of pain? Any suggestions? Thanks for any input.

I would call the surgeon. Do you have a temperature?

Re: Red hot poker pain

At about 3 weeks I woke up to extreme pain, more in my incision area and my lower back. I didnt have any bleeding, fever, infection, or activity to have caused an increase in my pain level. My doctor had no explanation for it either.

Now at 4 weeks I am having the same pain by my belly button as you are. I see my doctor on Friday and will ask him if this is normal. My pain is not level 10 though so I'm not as concerned as previously. Did you increase your activity level?

Didn't really increase activity. I changed from Motrin to aleve and started wearing a 4 inch abdominal binder ( I cut the 10 inch binder I got from the hospital) it has really helped a lot. Haven't had burning pain for 3 days now. I think it's just cut nerves trying to find their place. ;0)

Re: Red hot poker pain

Hey Larson! Glad you are doing better. Great idea for cutting the binder down to size. My pain woke me up at 5 am this morning. It was pretty bad -bad enough for narcotics but I had my Dr's appoint at 10:45 later that morning. He told me I could drive as long as I wasn't taking the meds so I figured they would have been out of my system by the time I had had to drive. Well they were! I was in quite a bit of pain. He said the pain I'm having is all normal part of healing. Surprisingly the pelvic exam doesn't hurt at all. He also said my internal stitches would be dissolved by 6 to 8 weeks. I came home and took some Percocet and as I'm typing this I'm still having sharp pains. He did say it will continue to get better each week.

I also found that a moist heating pad worked well for me. I had that pain for about 3-4 days.

Re: Red hot poker pain

I alternate between heat and ice. I can't decide which works better...still having the sharp pain. Oh well.
