Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Yes, the iron pills...then the stool softener cause of how the iron messed with my tummy. I felt old. I was cold all the time and tired. Some of the symptoms had me terrified and I was glad I didn't have to deal with them. I was mortified at the thought of having to use a cane at 34. Being alone I was thinking how am I gonna do my grocery shopping. By the way I just had smaller bags and made more trips to the car, I moved slower but things still got done. Way better than the bleeding, I mean just the time it took to go to the store and get more tampons was too long to prevent an accident. While driving, and turning, I could literally feel the blood sloshing from one side to the next when I turned. It was awful!!

My dr tried to tell me I'd be fine, but of course I worried. I didn't lose my hair either. Bmcame after 3-4 days it was fine.

My purse is insanely heavy tho...like most chicks I think...so I had to remember not to carry that for a while

Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Wow guys! I had my LSH yesterday morning and was home by 3:00 pm. I was a little spacey yesterday but felt okay today with just 800 mg ibuprofen I even had a nice walk around the neighborhood and guess what? Petrified was right...no more bloaty tummy! Hooray!

I was nervous yesterday morning but now that I know what I know, I wish I wouldn't have bothered with all the stress.

Hugs!

Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Yay you PT13!! so happy to hear you are feeling good after surgery. I wish you nothing but continued success on your journey to a happier life free of pain. Still so very nervous about having my TAH but looking forward to the long-term benefits. I will take on as much pain in recovery if it means that i will never have to suffer as I do now with fibroids!

Hugs, hugs, hugs!

Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

I will be sending my most positive thoughts your way Dee. I suppose no matter how much anyone tells you that it will be a-okay, there is always going to be nervousness. It would be weird if there wasn't. But I trust you will be back in the game in no time at all and I do hear you about the cost/benefit analyses...I am already seeing how insane it was to put up with those nasty fibroids as long as I did. I still feel a bit sore around the incisions and tummy area but it is not worse than the soreness from beginning a workout regimen and overdoing it a bit, but even with that I feel SO much better overall. You'll do great dear heart!

Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Hi Dee, I'm sorry to here what you are going through! I've had so many issues in my past, I finally decided to have a hysterectomy. I still have my ovaries but my uterus and cervix are gone :-( I just had my surgery on Oct 1st. It is still very emotional for me but I think after I heal it will be worth it (that's what I've been told). I'm sore and tired some days and others I feel a little better. I need to remind myself to REST and not do the household stuff that my husband and children forget to do! I wish you luck on your surgery and can try to answer anything you may want to know from my experience.......Tinamarie

Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Great news PT13!! We just have to keep telling our story in hopes it helps other women. When I signed on this this site, my name really fit how I felt. I would change it now if I could to "Livin' life again"!!!!!

So happy your experience is a positive as mine. Remember, you will have good days and bad. Follow your doctors order to a "T" and in the long run you will find a whole new happy life.

Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Hi, Dee! I’m very sorry for what you’re going through and sending encouragement and good thoughts. I’m older (turning the big 5-0 exactly a week before my DVH on Oct 29!) and another recurrent fibroid sufferer. Had awful periods since my teens and underwent a myomectomy at age 34 for fibroids and endometriosis, but.. in spite of all efforts… the fibroids eventually came back. (A nurse recently joked that I “must be a good host” and I said, “Yeah, but they’re getting the eviction notice now!”) At my last ultrasound, the technician commented that biggest one was about the size of 4 month pregnancy. I’m relatively petite and really starting to feel weighed down and increasingly uncomfortable. So while I’m not looking forward to another surgery, I’m hoping to feel lighter and freer (in body and mind) once things have healed. After so many years, I’m ready to move on! I love going to cardio dance and pilates classes so I’m hoping to get back to them as soon as it’s safe….it will be interesting to see if exercising feels different without this bulkiness in my abdomen. Best of luck and hoping that you feel much better after the fibroids are gone… you will do great!!

Re: Newbie - Recurrent fibroid sufferer

Even though I'm pretty early in the recovery, and I only had one puny 10cm fibroid compared to everyone else who responded - I already feel a lot better. I can already tell that fibroid was contributing to all sorts of discomfort, back aches, hip pain, constipation, and urinary issues - probably more than I realized. It feels so much better now that it is gone.
