day before surgery diet, confused...

Had my pre-admission clinic yesterday. No mention of bowel cleanse or any special diet - just nothing after midnight. Surgery time has yet to be set.

I am wondering would it be best to just sort of eat light the day before or should I be putting some extra fibre in the holding tank so to speak?

I have been taking stool softeners to help with the prolapse but I still only "go" about 3 times a week. So there is no guarantee I will go on the morning of surgery.

You might want to ask the pre op people that gave you instructions.Or you might not have any prep.Just keep it light so you dont have much in your stomach.Good luck and take care remember to take it easy once you get home.

Yes, I asked the nurse. She said nothing had been specified by the doctor. Checked with the doctor today and she said just nothing after midnight. All well and good but she's not the one that will have to have the BM after the a/p repair, lol. I just want to do what's best.

Re: day before surgery diet, confused...

Double check with your doctor if you want to do something different than what was instructed (or not as in your case).

Every doctor is different. Mine told me to eat light and do a fleet saline enema the night before. I strongly advise you NOT to bulk up on fiber. In all likelihood you will not have a BM the day after. In fact you may not have one for up to 5 days. It's normal.

Re: day before surgery diet, confused...

I am guessing she does not seem concerned since it is a vaginal procedure. I plan to eat light... I think that would be best. I certainly do not want a fibre bomb in the shoot... lol

Re: day before surgery diet, confused...

I am still hospitalized from aTAH on Tuesday.i did.not have to do any sort of preo. I did eat light the day before w toast, soup and crackers. I don't want to have a bm yet as.peeing is all that I do, and it is.not comfortable at all.
