Adenomyosis

Good Morning,

I am going in for a D&C and Hysteroscope on August 6. We are trying to find what is causing my pain wether it's my fibroid or something else. After these tests we will determine if I am going to have a TAH on 8/16 or wait. One thing she mentioned was Adenomyosis, but from everything I'm reading this can't be detected during a D&C and Hysteroscope. Is this true?

Thanks,
MishK

Adenomyosis

Hi MishK

I've read that adenomyosis can be detected through an MRI.
The imaging is expensive but the test can pick up the stuff if its spread throughout the uterus or more like focal lesions ( in one or two places).

I don't know your symptoms, but it can cause uterine pain like cramps and bleeding. Fibroids are pretty easy to spot with an ultrasound or sonogram (same thing). I hope your doctor finds something that will explain your pain.

Adenomyosis

Hi. I was surprised to see another message with the word Adenomyosis in it. I have been diagnosed with Adeno, but when I went for my Laporoscopy, I guess my uterus had very obvious spots of boggy tissue visible on the outside, so it made diagnosis very easy for my doctor. I also have very mild endometriosis. I am scheduled for my abdominal hyst on August 15th, so I guess after that I'll know for certain that I did indeed have adeno. Regardless, I am having the surgery. I am so tired of excruciating pain. Can't wait to be pain free! I wish you lots of luck! Shannon

Adenomyosis

The doctor thinks I may have Adenomyosis along with my other problems. I had an MRI where the radiologist noted some sort of change that is often indicative of adenomyosis apparently. I am sorry that I cannot recall what the exact change was as this was a few years ago.

From what my doctor has told me it is the result of parts of the uterine lining growing or getting trapped in the muscle wall of the uterus. There is no definitive way to diagnose it until after surgery and your uterus is examined. The MRI apparently can now detect changes that indicate the possibility of Adenomyosis (I do not know how accurate it is). Symptoms would include pain, heavy bleeding, painful periods, boggy/tender uterus.

During a pain mapping lap the exterior of my uterus looked dark blue in some areas.... it was very painful... the one doctor thought it was the result of adenomyosis... the other doctor thought it was the result of pelvic congestion (I know I have that). Maybe I have adenomyosis (as seen by the MRI) that is causing the pelvic congestion (which was seen on the pelvic venogram)... who knows... it will all be gone after Monday morning...
