3 days post op Total Abdominal Hysterectomy
Had my Tah on Tuesday. Doc said ovaries were very healthy so he left them. So far bowels have been working fine. I did have one bad bout of nausea on Wedesday night which kept me throwing up until 3 am. But other than that I am only taking ibuprofen. Pain not to bad. Still not eating real good but working that back in slowly. Guess it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Doc said my tumors and uterus together were the size of a watermelon. No wonder I was so tired. Hope everyone else has had a good experience so far. Hugs to all. And thank
God I found this app. It has helped ALOT!!!

Welcome to the other side. Now put one foot in front of the other. Let your body heal and follow doctor's orders. A month from now and you will feel so much better.
Rest, eat plenty of protein, and even if you feel good do NOT do housework. Take care of you!!!
You made it!

The worst part is coughing!!! Any suggestions? I have tried the pillow, standing up and sitting down. Feel like I can't get this gunk from my throat. Driving me crazy!!! 😖

Re: 3 days post op Total Abdominal Hysterectomy
Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought. I was lucky too, I am one year on from mine and life is great. I didn't have much pain at all afterwards either, I was expecing more. I have had no real side effects - sex is still good and the freedom of not having to worry about when your period coming is just wonderful. I think my mood has been a bit flat - but like you I still have ovaries in, and I am at that age when menopause or pre-menopause can happen so I am pretty sure it's just that. We are lucky we got to keep our ovaries, as I have heard of some women struggling to get their mood right once the ovaries have gone. So we are two lucky chicks. Take it easy, don't do too much bending to pick things up - I made this mistake (picking up after the kids) and get someone to help put socks on, if you have someone to help, as shoes and socks can be quite hard for a week or so. It took me 8 to 10 weeks to feel back to normal, but I was able to go out shopping etc. by the end of the 2nd week.
The key is to take it easy, no matter what other people say - it is major surgery so you need to give your body time to heal, and every body is different. And don't stress about the swelly belly, it can take a few months to go down fully. Good luck with your recovery, you will feel fantastic soon enough!

Re: 3 days post op Total Abdominal Hysterectomy
Sounds like you doing well! Take it easy and take colace. Get some pepto in case nausea recurs. If you think coughing is bad, wait for sneezing. Try to keep from engaging abdominal muscles when you do, which is hard. Keep walking around every hour. Take naps. Drink lots of fluid. Eating lite the first week is normal, like crackers and soup, but try to also get protein to promote muscle healing. In a couple days you should start getting energy back. Good luck!

Re: 3 days post op Total Abdominal Hysterectomy
Have you tried throat coat tea bu traditional medicines? I had a recovery a lot like yours. Felt find except for a terrible bout of nausea (mine lasted almost 24 hours and kept me in the hospital an extra day).
Anyway, I swear by the teas. I drank "throat coat" after surgery and it really fixed my sore throat. They have "smooth move" which help with bowels (although I take senna and a laxative as well). There is also a tea for coughing (I haven't taken that one because I haven't been coughing). Anyway, I'm not the tea-toddling type normally (think double expresso with a shot of Jack lol); but I started using teas last year for a few different things and I swear the teas do help me heal.
Hope you feel better soon!

I had really bad coughing then sneezing. Made non-stop hot water with lemon and honey and sipped it. Also bought Lidocaine-type lozenges which really helped.
