Bleeding red and somewhat a lot 3 weeks after surgery.

It's been 3 and a half weeks since my LAVH and I started spotting and bleeding a little two days ago, just enough so that my doctor told me to take it easy and said I probably just overdid it and it was normal.

It seemed like it WAS getting better until I stood up and a bunch of blood came out all at once..bright red. I'm kinda scared. Is this normal or abnormal? It's not like there's a continual flow of it but it's definitely there and heavy. In fact, this is the most I've had of anything coming out of there SINCE the surgery. Should I just be careful and rest or should I go to the ER?

Hmmm. Sometimes it is hard to decide whether to go to the ER or not. I probably would call your dr.'s answering service. Be prepared to give info regarding how heavy you are bleeding (how many pads per hour), the fact that it is bright red, and if you have fever or not. Dr. can then advise you if this is normal or needs an ER visit.

Bright red bleeding that fills a pad an hour is something you should call your doctor about. In your case, I think I would call just to be safe! The more specific details you can share the better, especially since you may get an on call physician. in there!

Thanks, I called the on-call doctor. Hopefully I don't end up in the ER.

Yay (well kinda) she thinks I just tore the scab and it released a backed up blood clot or something like that.. praise God! She said I really overdid it when I chased after my two year old today and to be really careful over this weekend. Bummer but I'm glad I don't have to go to the ER.

Glad you called!

Please do take it easy.. can a relative watch your 2yr old for the weekend? I totally understand.. I have a 4yr old and know how rambuctious they can be. Get all the help you can so you can let that scab area heal up again.

I'll have my husband over this weekend thankfully. Other than that we don't really have anyone who can help, we live too far from family and our friends all have newborn babies. Kids and hysterectomies just don't go well together at all! lol
