dVH/RALH 5 days post hysterectomy & BSO: Hot flashes

5 days post op.......Ok even though they took everything... I'm on the estradiol patch for HRT. Is it normal to still have hot flashes?

I still had them too, to the point I would sit on the floor in a store and fan myself because my head was sweating to the point of my hair getting wet! It also made my skin weird under it, like dried it out. So I took it off last Monday (1 week ago) and didn't put it back on. I haven't had any worse hot flashes so I'm not putting it back on! I researched that they cause breast and uterine cancer and breast cancer runs in my family! The Dr that did my surgery botched me up bad, so I had a heck of a recovery from emergency surgeries! His PA says I should take something so my vagina doesn't dry up bc I'm only 34.

It can take a while for your body to adapt to HRT - it's not necessarily an instant fix like a pill can do with a headache. Also, it's tricky to find the right balance compatible with your needs.

Start keeping a symptom diary, and note anything (if anything) which might have triggered those symptoms. With a record to share with your doctor, it'll guide you as a team to what works best.
