hi

Hi guys its me. Sorry I havent been posting. Kinda having a hard time. Was released too early and developed a fever. DR said during surgery my colon was so full of air, he couldnt believe it.
Had to go to the ER couple of days ago with a 102 fever . Come to find out my doc accidentally bumped the bladder, caused an infection with blood in the urine. That part isnt the big deal. The worst is that I am so full of gas, cant pass it, look 6 mos pregnant and havent has a BM since Sat early morning. Been taking stool softners, laxatives, drinking pure grape juice (which normally works for me). I am so uncomfortable with that part. The surg was 2 hours and they found alot of endo, kept the ovaries and I am healing wonderful from the actual surgery itself. I do have IBS and I cant figure out if the surgery flared something. Percocet was given for pain but I had an allergic reaction and was switched to Lorcet. I have been walking around the house to try and get the bowels working (when my fever isnt up) and doing everything I am told to go. I feel like someone sewn up my butthole as a joke. Nothing is working. If I don't poop soon I dont know what will happen to me. If anyone has a trick let me know...everyone talked about swelly belly but mine is so different. please Help..Im desperate.

hi

Dear Patti,
so glad to hear from you, and happy to hear that the hyster part of the experience is doing well. You poor thing! You must be so uncomfortable...I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you, my solution has alway been black coffee and fiber-one cereal when my direticultis has flared up, but it is a nasty combination and it sounds like you have already tried one of everything. Just wanted to send best wishes and say welcome home, hope everything comes out okay! (like you haven't heard that one before!)
love

hi

Scared I am so sorry. My biggest fear b4 the surgery is the digestive stuff - I am already weird that way.

Good luck to you dear.

hi

scared, can you use a suppository? I feel so bad for you. I sat here and almost cried for you. Have you been back to the dr. for the constipation? Can you use an enema or something?

hi

Patti,

Have you tried drinking hot water? That usually works for me if prune juice or grape juice doesn't work.

My thoughts are with you.

hi

This may sound ridiculous to you at this point, but it worked for me.

Up to postop day 5, I had a lot of gas and bloating. I was taking simethecone (max dose). It was always somewhat uncomfortable but not unbearable. When day 5 hit, I thought I would explode. I was in terrible pain, not from the incision, but gas. I could hear it rumbling in my abdomen, and it wouldn't come out. Like you, I walked circles around the first floor of my house. I tried a suppository, but still nothing. I had a doctor's appointment the next day and I thought if I still feel like this, I won't be able to go. Fortunately the next morning things were better. I was still bloated but the pain had subsided some. I was so afraid it would return. I told the doctor and she said that after the uterus is removed, they have to stuff the intestines back up in the abdomen and sometimes they're not "happy" at first. That was an understatement! She removed my steristrips and my incision looked great.

The next day I was looking down at my incision, sort of gently holding my upper abdomen in and holding my lower muscles taut, and I realized that I felt some relief. I started making a conscious effort to sit up straight and hold my muscles in a bit. It took concentration at first! Within two hours I was passing gas and feeling much better. The next day I had my first somewhat normal BM. (Cause for celebration!) Over the next week, all the bloating and gas pain disappeared. I'm back in jeans and feeling great. (I still have the small "mudslide" over the incision, but I only notice it if I look at myself sideways!) Of course I know time was a factor, but because of how quickly things resolved, I really think the change in posture and muscle tone helped shift things into place. May have helped decompress my bowel as well.

Everyone is different. I did not have the complications that you've had to deal with and I was not on pain medication at the time (can cause constipation.) You just sounded like I felt on day 5 and I know how desperate I was for relief!! Thought I would share what I think worked for me. Good luck!

hi

I bet it was the anesthesia! Its SO harsh on me, (an IBSer too) Blocks me for weeks, Nothing moves! Last time I had surgery I lied and said I passed gas when I didn't cause I hadn't eated for 3 dyas and they weren't going to let me eat until I did and I was SUPER starving! Now I know why they do that, I vow not to this time!

called dr

I left a message this morning with my DR's nurse. This fever wont budge unless I take motrin around the clock. Now we dont know if it is part of the bladder infection or if I have impacted stool. (omg does that scare me). I never thought I would have this problem. LAst night my dinner consisted of lots of grapes, canteloupe, this cereal that my mom told me to buy that smelled like me dogs dry food and washed it all down with 8 oz of PRUNE JUICE. Gross, that is the worse tasting stuff next to the bowel prep drink. I'm walking because the surgery seemed to go great and I don't have much pain from that at all.
I has this awful feeling that I will need to go to a gastric specialist or something...or even worse...need to go under surgery again. Today makes a week since surgery and the 5th day since I have passed any decent amount of gas and absolutely no stool. MY DH thinks I am afraid to go and thats whats preventing me but its not. I dont have any outside periniem stitches..I know nothing can tear. Hopefully this nurse will call soon cuz when this fever breaks out, I get chills and feel so weak.
PLease, LIW, do not fear by my story cuz the LAVH went great. This could be a reaction to my IBS problems.
