Post-Op Appt Update

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to pass along a little update. I had my 6 week post-op appointment yesterday. The doctor decided not to do an internal, which suprised me a bit. However his thinking seems to be that the only healing difficulty I had earlier on was with the incision - which he could check on the outside. (Which is looking good now) So no need to disturb things internally when all seems to be going well.

The good news is I've been released to start increasing activity - slowly so I don't shock my system, but I can move in that direction. He okay'd me to extend my time off a bit, as I'd hoped (although when I jokingly asked if he could give me the rest of the year off, he just laughed and laughed - darn it!).

One other bit of interesting info is that my uterus weighed 1.345 kilos. A normal uterus is 60-80 grams - that's about 20X the size! I knew it was enlarged, but had no idea. That certainly puts things in a strange perspective!

Anyway - that's me for now. Thanks for listening. And many hugs to all of you in your process.

dear fal, i too had my 6 week (five really) yesterday.

the doc gave me more time from work (yea, i was so stressed cause I knew i couldnt manage). Released me to increase activity (if i can find someone to increase it with!)

no official internal although she did a quick check on the cervix -- the glove no speculuum.

I was so relieved about work i forgot to ask my uterine stats!! but I HAVE invented a new word! uteruselessness. it is for when you feel useless without your uterus post surgery!

Hi Lalawoman,

Glad it went well at your DR appointment and you have the okay to stay off work for a bit more. I've read in a few other posts "you only have once chance to heal right" or something like that. And it's really stuck with me.

I hear you on the "having someone to increase activity with" too. (or I think I'm reading between the lines correctly!). I feel like having all these problems has kept me single for the last number of years. I don't know about you, but all the "coping" that comes with these kinds of problems, while doing the rest of life didn't leave me with much to put into dating, etc.

I'm turning 40 this year as well, and really feel like I've gotten a new lease on life. I'm quite excited about what it's going to be like to not have to retreat every month...to not be chronically anemic...to not have a constant dull roar of strange little cramps and pressure - imagine that!?! On the flip side, I'm actually a little nervous whether I know how to live more fully anymore - but I'm certainly ready to take up the challenge and find out!!

Here's to new hope and new chapters to all of us!!

Love your ladies sense of humor. Its funny because I was just standing at the sink doing dishes an hour go thinking I feel useless being uterusless, and now you came up with a word for it. Thanks for the laughs. Lala woman I think you need to go into comedy because you keep us sisters laughing through all the ups and downs of recovery! Maybe you and Desiree could do a duo.
