Help, what does this all mean???
Hi!
I had adenomyosis as part of the reason for my hysterectomy. It was suspected because of my symptoms but wasn't diagnosed for sure until the pathology report after surgery. My uterus was enlarged and "boggy", plus I had a lot of heavy bleeding every 21 days that left me anemic. I did try options such as birth control pills, then Prometrium (progesterone) and a doctor approved amount of ibuprofen to help reduce the amount of bleeding but eventually not even those things were helping. My uterus was too large for an ablation to be an option so all that was left was to have the hysterectomy. Having a hysterectomy eliminates adenomyosis as it grows within the walls of the uterus. You mentioned in another thread that you have been diagnosed with endometriosis. You have probably already learned that there isn't a cure for endometriosis at this time. Having a hysterectomy, with or without removal of the ovaries, isn't a guarantee that you won't have problems with endo after surgery as many of our members know all too well. On the other hand, there are members who report doing well after surgery. Unfortunately there aren't any guarantees. Perhaps you will be able to consult with an endometriosis specialist. Here's a link to a list of some which have been recommended: Endometriosis Specialists.
If you want more information about adenomyosis and endometriosis, you'll find plenty of links to read in the site Resource Database. Go to the tab which says "Resources" (located near the top/right side of the page) and then select the Link Directory option from the menu. Or, you can use this quick link: Resource Database.
I hope your doctor appointment goes well and that you get relief from the pain you are having.
