Two Weeks -what can I do!

It seems that by 2 weeks post-op most of you have had some contact with your Dr's since your ops. I haven't heard anything from mine.I know he has the path results because I have received the bill.As I said previously I assume no news is good news, and he was confident that there was nothing sinister during the op. He never mentioned a follow-up appt, although the nurse told me to make an appt for six weeks when I was discharged from the hosp.Is this similar to anyone else's aftercare management? I am very well-no probs.Feel like I am back to normal and want to return to work on Monday but am not sure what he said about this,or the sex thing,or physical exercise (gym), or anything about stitches (persumably I have stitches?!)I had my cervix removed but not ovaries.
What do you reckon? If I listen to my body I am recovered enough to carry on as normal and there is no need to contact the DR to get the OK-but then, I don't
want to end up with complications.Any suggestions?

( I think I have posted this before in a different spot!-I need to get back to work and off this computer, boredom has struck big time!)

Two Weeks -what can I do!

I'm glad you are feeling well. However, it is unlikely that you are able to go back to work whether you feel like it or not. I'm 2 weeks out and I have no thought about work. Do NOT think about things like vacuuming, sweeping, etc. You should call your doctor about the check up right away. You absolutely should NOT think about sex without talking with your doctor. One thing I've learned on here, you have only once chance to heal right, do not blow it.

Hey surfflower, not exactly sure what you had done but it would seem to me that the Doc would want to see you very soon. I had a tah bso and went for a post-op 5 days after for a checkup, and I have a 2 week follow up coming soon so maybe you should check with the doctor maybe the nurse gave you wrong info. Glad you are doing good but be careful not to overdo it we don't want you to hurt yourself, take care.

I had TVH (Kept ovaries, but not cervix).I live in Australia so things may be done slightly differently here.I am getting worried now because I have vacumed, cleaned, etc etc -no sex though! I will give the Dr a call and see what he thinks.

Vacuuming might be okay with TVH, but I would certainly ask the doctor first. You're only 2 weeks post op, take it easy.

Two Weeks -what can I do!

I don't know about the vacuumming. I had a LAVH with partial BSO and I was told NO vacuumming, sweeping, lifting anything heavier than a 5 gallon jug of milk, etc. Also, I had to limit doing stairs. I was basically told to take it very easy for awhile. It's been 2 weeks since my surgery.

Can you call your dr's office to double check with your doc?

Two Weeks -what can I do!

I had a TVH 3 weeks ago. At time of discharge I was told by the doctor nothing in the vagina for a minimum of six weeks. Had my 2 week post op last week and was told no vacuuming, sweeping or mopping. driving short distances was ok, no lifting more than 10lbs, no reaching into the washer or bending to get things out of the dryer. Told that I could return to work (desk job)next week for half days only if I could get up from my desk frequently to move around. Regardless of the type of hyster you have, the internal stitches etc need time to heal, minimum of 6 weeks, but could take several months. For those who had their cervix removed the 6 weeks is very important to the healing of the vaginal cuff. Please contact you doctor for his recommendation, he knows your case the best. You only have one chance to heal right - don't rush things. Best of luck for an uneventful recovery.

Two Weeks -what can I do!

I and a TVH and vaginal sling/cystocele repair on Feb. 7. I did have a post-op appointment with my doctor 1 week after coming home from the hospital, but it was frankly a waste of time. It was too soon for an exam, and he essentially just said to come back in 2 weeks. I'm feeling well. Bored because I haven't left the house, but I have been working from home 4-6 hours a day which helps with the boredom. I think returning to work depends on how you feel, what you do at work, and how much control you have once you get to work about saying no, or going home, if you don't feel well. I go back to the doctor on Wed. and hope to get clearance to go to work beginning Friday, which will be 3 and a half weeks post-op. I'm still taking it easy at home, no cleaning, shopping, etc. Work for me however, essentially involves sitting at a computer, so I think I should be okay. And I trust that I have the option, if I'm not feeling well to say so, and go home. I think it is important to keep in mind that a lot of women who did very well after their surgeries never come to sites like this -- not to discount the experiences of the women here, but many women do very well after surgery, and you need to trust yourself and how you feel -- there is a wide variety of experiences. good luck!

SFlour: You are very lucky to be feeling so well. BUT don't over do it. If you read any threads on this site,, pay attention to the adhesion one. Adhesions start to form immed. after surgery. The more rapidly you do things the more adhesions you will get. Believe me you don't want to do that. You don't get many chances to RELAX in life today, sit back and take advantage for a bit, it won't last long. Good Luck.

Take it easy!

It takes several weeks for internal stiches to heal. If you overdo it you can get adhesions(scarring). Your not supposed to lift over 5 lb 1st week, 10 lbs till dr releases you. No laundry baskets, heavy groceries, vacuuming etc...

You probably got discharge papers from the hospital.
