laparoscopic hysterectomy on Thur. ACK! (children mentioned)

Hi! My name is Tina and I'm 39, married, 2 kids and live in PA! And I'm VERY NERVOUS. I'm so glad I found this forum in time!

Thursday I'm going in for surgery. I'm having a laparoscopic hysterectomy (just taking the uterus). I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to stay overnight in the hospital but I do. And I thought there wouldn't be much pain and I'd be fine in a couple days...apparently I'm being too optomistic? Has anyone had this? What was your experience please?

pre-op too!

sorry I can't help - I am pre-op as well. My LAVH is scheduled for 12/31 (yep - Happy New Year to me!!) I have been told that I will stay overnight and come home the next day. I am pretty optimistic that I won't be "down" too long but who knows!

I am 41, live in Indiana, married with 2 kids.

Although I can't help with your fears I will tell you that you have found a great place! Since we made this decision and I found the site I am nearly obsessed with checking ou all the info!! So

I'm in PA, having my surgery on the 20th as well. I am having the same surgery also! To be honest, I would like to stay in hosp more than the 1 night I am scheduled for right now. I have 2 kids and would llike the break- I know that sounds horrible. I am 29. I keep hearing from the stff that I am so young, and that they usually have to fight with ins co. to pay when I am that young... blah blah. I guess from my records they cannot say I am not sick!
Wouldn't that be great if we are near each other!!!

laparoscopic hysterectomy on Thur. ACK! (children mentioned)

I was supposed to stay one night when I had my surgery. But I did so well that the doctor let me go that night. I had NO pain and only took a pain that night to make sure I didn't wake up in pain. The next morning my mom called from MD to check in with my husband, but because the phone is on my side of the bed, I jumped without thinking. Even that didn't bother me. I had the stitches removed 10 days post op and was released to do anything I felt comfortable doing. I took it very easy for a while. I did wait a few weeks to drive and almost six weeks before attempting sex. For me it was a lot quicker recovery than I was expecting. One advantage for me though was that my doctor used no internal stitches. He cauterized everything instead.

My suggestion is to have help available if possible. Better to have some extra help and not need it than the other way around.

HI Girls I don't know if it because of my age or the fact that my surgery is different but I am having a radical hysterectomy with lymph node removal and the doctor said I will be in the hospital about 3 days???? I am in Nevada, I do know that there are many issues people face with insurance but I am on emergency medicaid maybe that is why I will have more hospital time I don't know. I am so scared now about the upcoming surgery. I am so freaked out about the pain. My orders say I will be getting a superior hypogastric plexus block and I guess that is for pain and I am gonna have a marcaine pump 2 catheter too for pain also so that makes me think I am really gonna have some major pain and I am scared now.

Hi Dragonomine,

I also had a LSH and I am still really pleased I was a candidate for the surgery type.

I had my hyst at an outpatient facility and I had the option to spend the night. Truthfully....I thought I might be there overnight and instead they released me at 6 PM the day of surgery. After surgery, while I was in the recovery area, it was at least reassuring to know I had the option of an overnight stay if need be.

I think I had a textbook recovery. In post-op, I can suggest eating healthy, drinking lots of water to prevent a UTI and get some walking in when you feel up to. Walking really helped me feel better.

A LSH is a less invasive hyst and it is also major surgery. Let your body do the talking after you get into post-op. Just say *no* if something sounds like too much. It probably is. We LSH Hyster Sisters can look great on the outside during immediate post-op...and we are still healing on the inside. Just take time with your recovery if you need it.

In my case...I started back to work at 2 weeks with my Dr's okay and I got a greenlight for all activities - including sex and the gym - at 6 weeks.

Sending best wishes~

Mary

I had a TLH - removal of everything but ovaries on December 7. I also live in PA and am 29yo. This is my 12th day post op and I am still in pain. The doctor did have to remove endo from intestines and scar tissue from my bladder, but I really thought I would feel better by now. I was only supposed to be inthospital one night but I stayed 2 since I was still in so much pain. Don't forget thought that everyone heals differently. I do have lupus, but so far there are no signs that it is interfering. Let me know if you have any questions.

i had an lsh last year, stayed in the hospital for 2 days...and had a very easy recovery. the first 48 hours were painful from the gas they use, but once that dissolved, it was smooth sailing. you might be happy to get the i.v. pain relief in the hospital..i was definitely not ready to go home the same day or even the next day. good luck
