Husband deploying after hysterectomy

For your older kids that help...plan something special to do for them after your recovery...take just the 2 of them to the movies, or out to dinner or just some special time together. You'll have plenty of time to think of something. I've never homeschooled my kids (don't have the patience) but I would think that you could still do some...like reading and there was a great post about cooking and math.

Are you on a base somewhere where you could have some help from some other military wives?

I don't think there is much too add to what everyone else has said. But I truly believe your kids will love to help. I have two ages 11 and 13 and they have been a tremendous help. Your kids will just want to see mommy get better and will be happy to help. Definitely cook things ahead of time and freeze them. Buy frozen foods and as others have said, stock up on staples and use lots of paper goods. Don't worry about the house, it will survive being messier than usual and talk to your kids a lot about this. The younger ones if they want to be picked up could perhaps go on the bed next to you (put a pillow over your tummy) so they get cuddles without you getting hurt from trying to pick them up. Perhaps you can buy some workbooks for the kids to review and work in. This will help keep them busy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your dh. Best wishes.

Husband deploying after hysterectomy

We do have a good base support system over here in Germany. And we only live about 20 minutes off base. My husband will be leaving about 2 weeks after my surgery, so atleast he'll be here when I'm really needing his help. The Doctor wanted to do the surgery the day my husband is supposed to be leaving, but when I explained that my husband was deploying that day, he got me the soonest surgery date that he had open. So the military doctors try to help us out the best they can.

Thanks for all your encouragment. I told my husband what everyone has said and he says "thankyou." This is the longest that he will have ever been gone. And I am very nervous about him leaving. But we'll have him back for Thanksgiving, so we will have LOTS to be thankful for!!

Take care!!! ~Heidi
