Newbie-Calm with panic!!
Hello to all. I've been following the board for about 3 wks. I've found wonderful advice, things to add to my hospital list and relief at all who have come through fine. I found out 3 yrs. ago that I had fibroids (largest baseball size). Oct. 2003 had ultra-sound again and fibroids had grown some, multiple cysts on right ovary and left ovary adhered underneath and couldn't really be seen. Decided to wait 3 mths. and have another ultra-sound and see how it was. Meantime pap came back with pre-cancerous cells and had leep and got it all but kept bleeding and spotting daily until next ultra-sound that showed more changes. Decided it was time to take it all out and Doc said wise decision. Surgery date is this thursday the 29th.
The amazing thing is I have been so calm. I am a very anxious person. I switched from paxil to Lexapro which has worked wonders for me. I'm also taking sublingual Bvitamins that dissolve under the tongue and esterC. My family and friends are amazed at how good I'm doing. I don't really dread the surgery, I just hate the after effects of the anesthesia(had gall bladder surgery and was sluggish and very dry mouthed afterward).
However, last night woke with major panic attack, thought I was dying. Took xanax but still had time settling down. It was a total surprise because I thought I was doing so good. I believe it's the hidden anxiety that creeps up plus I'm trying to start and it may be hormonal. As others have said, Aunt Flo trying to visit one last time. Well this guest has over stayed her welcome and is fixing to b e kicked out :-). Thanks for reading, hope I didn't bore you.

Newbie-Calm with panic!!
Hi Vickie,
My surgery is planned for 29th/30th Jan as well. I have been surprisingly calm as well - although it was my last day at work today so I will see what my 'nerves' are like tomorrow.
I'm in a bit of a 'giddy' stage at the moment - not quite sure why. All my friends from work chipped in and bought me a few goodies - a new wash-bag for the hospital, a barbie toothbrush (I have promised to use this in hospital) and nearly a years supply of wet-wipes!! It felt more like my birthday than the fact that I'm off work for a major operation.
I've had similar surgery before and am not looking forward to the first few days after surgery at all - I'm not sure whether this time round it's better or worse for me as I know what to expect.
Good luck for Thursday - hope to talk to you afterwards.

Newbie-Calm with panic!!
Hi Vickie,
I know where you're coming from. I had my TAH-BSO last Tuesday, 1/20. I'm home now and doing fine. I too, am a fairly anxious person, but try to keep it under control. I thought I was doing really well. I would have my nervous moments, but nothing that I couldn't distract myself from. But, Saturday night, before my surgery, I almost had a major panic attack. I thought for sure I needed to get to the emergency room! But, with the help of my husband I got through it okay. We talked as I walked at a furious pace on the tread mill. Sunday Morning I was still feeling anxious and called my Dr.'s answering service. A nurse called back and talked with me for a long time trying to find out what my major concern was. It boiled down to me being afraid of the pain. The conversation with the nurse helped to know that I wasn't the only with these feelings. She said it was normal. She also told me that if I did feel like my anxiety was really out of control to go ahead and go the emergency room where I could be helped. I guess just knowing that I wasn't a total looney wimp helped alot. My DH and I went on a hike Sunday afternoon and again on Monday. Being outdoors and the exercise really helped.
As it turned out, for me, the pain was quite manageable. I was in the hospital for 2 days and I"ve been doing good since I've been home.
Please know that it's normal to be afraid. But, if your anxieties are getting the best of you, please talk to your Dr. Like most of ladies have said and I totally agree, waiting is the toughest/scariest part. I wish you good luck with your surgery and let us know how you're doing.

Newbie-Calm with panic!!
Thanks Lynn and Sharron . I'm holding my on, getting a little anxious but other than the nighttime panic attack I'm doing good for me. Good luck to you Lynn. As we say, time flies. and before you know it we'll be back here letting everyone know how it went.
By the way I'm 46 with 2 children and ready to have this done. I want to have more energy to enjoy my 3 grandchildren.
God bless to all who will soon be having surgery I will keep you in my prayer.

Newbie-Calm with panic!!
Vickie,
I'm glad you're happy that your surgery is going ahead.
I on the other hand am not too enthused!! I am 33 and have been lucky enough to have one child but have been trying for another for 6 years. I always thought that I would prove the doctors wrong but unfortunately it's not to be.
Physically I think I will recover fine - but not too sure about what emotional unheavel I will go through. I am trying to view this all from the 'positive' angle - although this time I have no pain or severe blood loss so it's just that little bit more difficult to see why I need this op. I know I do - and sure I'll come out the other end OK.
Best wishes again for Thursday.

Newbie-Calm with panic!!
Lynn sorry that you have to have one in this situation. I kindly understand. My husband had a vasectomy when he was 24 and I was 22. It was against my wishes because we were so young and I really wanted 2 more children. I had a grudge against that for a long time and it wasn't until I was nearly 40 that I got past the feeling of wanting more. I'm off for my pre-op, getting slightly more nervous but hanging in there, can't believe the time is here. Good luck to you.
