Question I should have asked @pre-op

Can I take a shower the day of surgery?

Doc said nothing to eat or drink after midnight, no makeup, no contact lenses, etc. I just forgot to ask about this.

Also, what about brushing my teeth? What if I swallow a little water? Should I just brush them the night before?

Ooh, what about shaving my legs?

I didn't think to ask...

My pre surgery instructions said to shower the night before and the morning of surgery.
I brushed my teeth the night before and the morning of.
I shaved my legs the night before, I was told not to shave down below the day or night before ( had a TAH with both tubes taken and kept both ovaries) They usually shave you are hospital.
hope this helps, but call your Dr if your not sure about anything

Re: Question I should have asked @pre-op

Hi

I'd say go ahead and enjoy your bath/shower. Definitely shave your legs etc, as it'll be a little while before you do them again.
And give those teeth a brush too.

With some premeds (before your anaesthetic) you are given tablets to take, which you swallow with some water - so the little bit of water you could possible swallow whilst brushing your teeth is nothing in comparison.

Good luck with your surgery

Re: Question I should have asked @pre-op

I was ordered not to shave anything for 48 hours pre-op- ask your doc about this... a shaving nick would be a terrible reason to have your surgery cancelled.
I was also allowed to have a bath and sex the night before but no shower the morning of.
No nail polish.
Do brush your teeth- nothing you swallow in the normal course of brushing and rinsing will make any difference

Re: Question I should have asked @pre-op

At my Pre-op the hospital gave me Hibiclens antiseptic /antimicrobial cleanser and instructed me to wash from the neck down to my legs for 5 minutes the night before and again the morning of. To brush my teeth but to avoid swallowing the water.

Re: Question I should have asked @pre-op

At my pre-op I was given scrubbing cloths to use. I have to shower prior to 7 pm and clean abdomen and upper thighs with one pack of cloths and in the morning I have to wash same area with the second set of cloths. I was specifically told not to shower in the morning. I was told brushing teeth the night before and the morning of was fine.

Re: Question I should have asked @pre-op

I was instructed to shower the night before or morning of surgery, using an antibacterial soap such as Dial. I was also told not to swallow any water when brushing my teeth. I was not given any instructions/restrictions regarding shaving.
