Day 32

Well this is my first post here. I had a DaVinci assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy (one if these days I hope to master all the great acronyms I've seen on this site) July 1st. The procedure went well however I had a reaction to the morphing given after surgery and ended up going into anaphylactic shock. I barely avoided an emergency tracheotomy. I spent 2 days in the hospital and left in moderate but manageable pain. 2 days later I ended up back in the hospital because I could not urinate. I ended up going home with a catheter that remained in for the next 5 days. I must say I was glad to see it go. Apparently my bladder had completely adhered to my uterus from the scar tissue that had formed from c-sections. My doctor said it just needed a bit of a rest since it was basically raw from being stripped from its attachment to my uterus. He was right. The catheter came out and I've been urinating however I have to go ALL the time. If I let my bladder fill too much the pain is pretty bad. I haven't slept more than 2 hours stay time at night because I'm constantly getting up to use the bathroom. I kept one of my ovaries but I don't know if its producing enough hormones because I have been having hot flashes which makes the nights even worse. It's been hard especially since I just returned to work. My energy is used up just getting to the office. Thank goodness I have a job where I can sit down otherwise I don't think I could make it. My doctor says that I have another 4 weeks to go before he will clear me to resume most of my activities. All in all day 32 is a lot better than Day 5. I just hope I can get a good nights sleep soon. This zombie look is not hot.

Re: Day 32

Feeling for you. I had some hot flashes, and I am 10 yrs post menopause. My ovaries apparently were still making some estrogen.
I just had a catheter for one day and I hated it. It felt like I had to go ALL THE TIME.. and then after they took it out, I couldnt pee. Since you are really not getting enough sleep, think about asking your doctor for a med to calm your bladder. They have something that makes your pee orange, it kind of anestetizes the nerve endings,, it's called something like pyridium.
I'm 7 weeks out from a daVinci and I finally feel pretty good. You will to, take one day at a time.
