Any suggestions on getting your energy back?
Well, I'm passing week #3. How long is it going to take before I can do more than make a cup of tea? I'm exhausted today just from sitting on the couch... I know I lost so much blood with the hemmoraghing last week, and a second surgery. I'm just frustrated. Please tell me that I'll get some energy back soon!
Sorry, I don't mean to be negative. I know that I'm progressing. My pain is much less... just need some energy and to stop feeling tired.
Looking for some light... and any suggestions for getting my energy back.

It will come. You are having a rougher recovery than most so it is expected that you are more fatigued for longer. Just make sure you eat really well. It makes a big difference in healing. Your body needs all the right nutrients to fix itself.

Re: Any suggestions on getting your energy back?
I only had 1 surgery but I did have a set back with finding a fair sized hematoma(sp?) Week 5. I was on bed rest for a week and felt a bit better by 6. I would say I was feeling more energy by week 10. Week 12 I felt mostly like myself with some fatigue and some pain. I am wk 17 and have more good days then bad. I admit I was a 'sloth' for at least 9 weeks :-)

Well, Danni, I'm really not eating very much.... any suggestions on the best things to eat, if I can't have much at a time. I am trying for nutrient dense things.

Re: Any suggestions on getting your energy back?
The fact you are not eating much probably explains how you feel. Your body needs nutrients to heal.
How about making smoothies? I make my smoothies with 2 scoops (probably a couple of tablespoons ) of Vi-shake powder (I am sure you could use some kind of protein powder or even carnation breakfast powder), a cup of soya or almond milk (you might want to use whole milk for the calories), as much frozen fruit as I can jam in the container (raspberries with blueberries is my favourite combo), a tablespoon of benefibre, and 2 tablespoons of chia seeds soaked in water. It tastes really good and I get a whole lot of nutrition out of it. I am not a breakfast eater so I have been taking that in the morning as a substitute.
Other things to eat or drink would be whole milk, eggs, lean meats such as chicken, berries, almonds or other nuts, spinach, yams, bananas... those just ideas off the top of my head. Even peanut butter is rich in nutrients.
I hope this helps.

Re: Any suggestions on getting your energy back?
Saw the surgeon today and she told me that it was not blood loss that caused my problem... all of the blood I was hemmoraging was from a huge blood clot. Instead, I had gone into Septic Shock and was hypovolemic. That explains the low bp, the fainting and the low blood counts. She has told me that I'll be off, at the very least another month. And that I'm not 'out of the woods'.

I just looked up hypovolemic and that is scary! I am so sorry you had to go through that. I am sending you positive thoughts so that you can heal well.

Canada Cat:
Sorry you had such a hard time. I am about 4 weeks now, and my energy is still not good. Sometimes i feel a bit depressed because there is so much to do around this house, and i dont feel like doing much at all. It was a big deal for me to take the dog for a walk today, wahoo! I will go out tomorrow, and i did go to a mall on Monday. Danni is it normal to feel a bit depressed?? My husband keeps telling me i should be doing all kinds of things but I don't think so, so i have to argue with him all the time. He says stupid things like "why dont you smile while you are on the computer." To which i reply, why dont you go buy me a bottle of wine??? Anyways, dysfunctional relationships aside, my swelly belly is still too big to allow me to zip my jeans which doesnt help much. Why do we have so much swelly belly? Is it from the lap. surgery where they blow up your belly? Thx, take care.

Re: Any suggestions on getting your energy back?
Delissa - It is totally normal to feel that way because there is a good chance your ovaries' blood supply was disrupted even if you kept them. This diagram explains the different ways that blood supplies are set up in women and considering that the uterine arteries are cut and sutured closed, you can see why so many of us have hormonal disruptions that lead to emotional upheaval after a hysterectomy. There are a few of us who are lucky but for many of us, we either have a temporary or permanent disruption. For those with the temporary disruption, it takes various amounts of time before our ovaries "wake up" in a manner of speaking. If you feel depressed, talk to your doctor about some temporary hrt to help you get over the hump. I hope this helps.

Re: Any suggestions on getting your energy back?
Your energy will return. It takes time, good nutrition, and lots of rest. A complicated recovery takes more of the same. Like Danni said, lean protein, legumes, iron rich vegies to help blood recovery, sweet potatoes, etc. When you eat spinach try to eat some citrus with it. The citrus helps the spinach release the optimum amount of nutrients. Garlic has some great compounds in it and has antibiotic properties that are not resistant. It is a great immune booster.
Having emotional changes is normal. Most are temporary. There was a period of time where I cried at every slightly tender moment in a movie.
At 9 weeks I am getting stronger everyday. That said, I had an extra busy day Tuesday, and ended up napping Wednesday for 2 hours.
Listen to your body. I know it feels like forever, but this recovery is really only a small time in life. Rest, relax, sleep, and take care of yourself. Hugs.
