1 day surgery?

Has anyone successfully had a hysterectomy as an out patient? Diagnosed with adenomyosis and Von Willebrand's. I am scheduled for 9am on 7/9/03, with no overnight. Thanks.

1 day surgery

Pepper1,

This sounds really odd to me, do you know if your surgery will be vaginal??? I would ask your doctor some questions about this, most abdominal surgery requires a 2-4 day stay, a vaginal should require at least an overnight stay?? Call your doctor and speak to the nurse if the doctor is not available.

Hugs....Joan

1 day surgery?

I had a vag. hyst. and had a 2 night stay - and needed it!

It took at least a day for the general anesth. to wear off and for me to feel human again.

I'd check with your dr. - this is major surgery.

Good luck!

surgery type

It is supposed to be a laproscopic-assisted abdominal hysterectomy (through the navel!)

1 day surgery

Pepper1

That still does not sound right to me, general anesthesia requires at least 24 hours to wear off and you are STILL having major abdominal surgery. Please call your doctor or even the hospital, this does not sound right!!!

((((((Pepper)))))))))),

Here is a site about your surgery. It does say 1-2 night stay though.

Hope this helps.

1 day surgery?

Well, if that procedure is THAT easy, sign me up too! My dr acted like I was speaking a foreign language when I suggested that procedure!

1 day surgery?

I had the LAVH and although the phone pre-op with the hospital nurse indicated it could possibly be an outpatient surgery, my doctor just smiled and said ALMOST EVERYONE stays overnight! Don't worry!!! My surgery was at 10 a.m. and there's no way I could have walked or riden in the wheelchair out of there the same day. My dh took me home at 4 p.m. the next day.

2 days here...

Beforehand, when I asked if I REALLY needed to stay 2 days, my dr's response was that he has sent women home after one day, and even same day when pushed, but he really doesn't like to. He told my husband after surgery that he'd want to keep me 2 days to make sure I didn't develop an infection or anything. In hindsight, I was glad I stayed as long as I did, but also really ready to go home!
