Had my pre-op today!

Hello Sisters,

Well I had my pre-op today. I knew so much going in (thanks to all of you) - that I virtually had very few questions. Everything went smoothly. I got through the 100 questions ok and they drew about 5 viles of blood. I also had an ekg(sp?) done and they explained how to do the enema thing. (not looking forward to that at all)

All in all, I felt I was in good hands and the nurse I had was wonderful!! In fact she is also a princess!!

Just wanted to thank you all for helping me through this difficult time in my life. Being informed makes all the difference.

thanks again.

Susie

Had my pre-op today!

Hi Susie. Glad everything went as planned for you during your pre-op. I was very pleased with the staff at my hospital and was treated wonderfully from beginning to end. Knowing some of what is going to happen helps take the edge off. I think most of our fears are of the unknown. No one looks forward to having surgery, esp. those of us who have never been through something like this before. Once I made the decision to go ahead with a hyst., I got all the information I could, and stay as positive as possible. It really made a big difference in my whole experience. Afterall, we are having surgery to improve our lives right?
Dont worry about the bowel stuff. I just did a Fleet enema the night before. I will give you a hint, if you didnt know already. I dont think they will give you a stool softner at the hosp. unless you ask, so I brought my own and started taking them the day after surgery. By the time I had my first b.m. it wasn't bad at all. Please ask if you have any questions and best of luck to you!

Before you take ANY meds to the hospital with you, you need to get permission from your DR. If he gives his permission you still MUST tell your caregivers BEFORE you take any medication. They will be giving you meds also and this is to avoid possible overdosing or a potentially dangerous drug interaction. Even something that seems as harmless as aspirin or even stool softeners.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE sisters - don't take medication without your caregivers knowledge. While you are in the hospital your health and well-being is their responsibility, don't unknowingly put your life in jeopardy.

Best wishes!
