bowel prep

Just when I think I am ready, I read something else. I am having a TAH on 2/28 due to endometriosis, scar tissue/adhesions, etc. I have had several other abdominal surgeries so it must be quite the mess down there. My doctor is out of town until a day or two before my surgery. Should I inquire about a bowel prep as he originally said no need for it. After reading the discussion, I think I should be prepared! ) Do I need permission or can I just do it!! Gosh, I can't believe I am asking "permission" for this. Thanks, sisters, for all the advice and diginity sent this way. You are the greatest!

Ask at Pre-Op

Hi there,
Do you have a pre-op appt? I would ask them then. I was told that at the pre-op at the hospital, they will send me home with bowel prep stuff (gee, can't wait till Thursday). If not, then call your dr's nurse and ask her. I think it's your dr's call if he/she schedules a bowel prep or not but not sure on that one.

Good luck.

bowel prep

Hello...
You will find out what type of bowel prep your Doctor has ordered when you go for your pre-op appointment.
Let me know if you have anymore questions. I had my TAH/BSO on February 5th. You can e-mail me if you would like to.
Good Luck...

It doesn't hurt to do it anyway

Yes, it's true that you will be told at pre-op what to do.

Make a list of questions for your pre-op. Whoever sees you will know what your doctor wants.

Good luck!

bowel prep

I just wanted to add that even if your dr doesn't require bowel prep you may want to ask if you can do it anyway I don't see why he would object. As unpleasant as it is I had very little problems with gas and bm's and I believe that it was due to the extensive bowel prep that I had to do.

bowel prep not always indicated

Don't do ANYTHING your surgeon did not specifically say to do!!! If they had wanted you to do a bowel prep they would have told you so. My dr did NOT want me to do one. Listen to your doctor first and foremost.
