thank you

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate your words of caution and more appreciate your sharing about your personal life and that we don't have to sacrifice our sex life after TAH. I did think the articles I read about will be helpful once surgery takes place. Thank you again for taking your time to help calm some fears.

Hi RedPoodle... this is a very timely post for me to respond to. Like you, one of my biggest fears was that I would lose the wonderful intimate life my husband and I have. I am 47 and he is 39 and our love life has been awesome. I had my TAH/BSO 5 weeks ago and was cleared for sexual activity at 4 weeks. We finally got the courage (and the time!) to try tonight... and I can say without a doubt that it never, ever felt better! It was actually the most intense satisfaction I've ever felt - and that is saying a lot! I have been fortunate enough not to have hot flashes, etc. and have not had to begin HRT. I was so prepared for dryness and that was not an issue either.
As for other benefits, for the first time in my life, there are no more severe cramps to "look forward to," no more heavy bleeding, no trying to schedule around my "bad days."
If you have tried everything else and your doctor is recommending surgery, please know that there are at least as many success stories as there are complications. I am exceedingly happy that I had the surgery and will pray for good things for you as well!

Wow, thanks for sharing your positive stories ladies. I'm 33 and reached my sexual peak a couple yrs ago, and hearing how some women lost their sx drives had me a little concerned(since I'm still reveling in my libido rise) I climax easy during our intimate times, and don't want that to be taken away.

I have had the same concerns and still do, as I am only 4 weeks today and still have to wait another 2 weeks. BUT on the bright side, I am noticing that my libido seems to be increasing and am thinking about trying some "outercourse". I have high hopes and have read some great success stories out there on the other side. We had a great sex life before, so I am confident that we will again. Good luck!

sex after recovery

Hello Ladies

I had my TVH on 3.28.06 with uterus & cervix removed, I do still have my ovaries. I had my 7th week post-op appt with Dr this past Monday. I was very nervous about having intercourse w/DH so we (Dr & I) talked about those concerns. Our talk made me so much more at ease about doing "the deed". He said to take it gently and slow the first couple of times and to use lubrication if needed. With my DH, well endowed, it has made it very painful in the past. We had intercourse after my appt w/the Dr. and IT was good for both of us. DH said that it was better than before. We didn't use any lubrication (wished we had though). The reason I say that is because afterwards I felt kind of warm (not really burning) down there and also very dry. I could definately tell that she had had a visitor that day. Glad to say everything felt normal the next morning. I feel like a new woman.

I hope that when the time comes for the rest of you ladies, that it is all GOOD!!

Wishing you all the best!!

Well, I must say I am glad there are women out there
who have had such a good experience, I have been so
bogged down with my condition that I haven't remembered that women could actually come
out of this with good results, I have to say I really feel
cheated, one reason I decided to have the hyst in the
first place is that I had talked to women who said how
good they felt after their hyst, and I had high hopes
for the same. It must be that my ovaries was the sole
organ that produced my hormones. The thing is I had
never had bad periods and real pain from my female
organs, I only had a 2 day period with no cramps, and
just gradually quit having a period at 48, never any
flooding or anything, not even mood swings, I was
really home free, and then had the hyst and it dramatically changed my life. The reason for my pelvic pain is still a mystery, I am assuming it is adhesions, and getting my hormones balanced has been the other
problem. But I want to say I am
really happy for you women that it has changed your
life for the better, it is time! Every since my hyst and
all the problems I have had, I have had the need to tell others to
take this surgery serious, and that is all I wanted to say, it just went very wrong for me, but if your quality
of life is not good, maybe this will be the answer for
you. I am happy for all of you that are doing so well.
I didn't mean to be a downer, but since the question was asked
I felt I had to tell this side of it, I never knew of anyone
who had these problems before my hyst, and I was very
upset that my Dr. didn't tell me of these possibilites,
I do believe that a person needs to be informed regardless, and the fact is, I ask for this surgery.
Just make sure you have a good surgeon, the the very
best of luck to you, and I mean that from the bottom
of my heart!! And again it is really good to hear from
so many success stories, at least I don't feel so guilty
for asking for this surgery, the guilt from this has been
almost as bad as the physical pain.

Ok, I'm a little new at this, but everyone is using abbreviations. What are SAH, TAH, TVH, BSO, HRT, LAVH?
