Question about keeping ovaries or not

My younger sister had Ovarian Cancer 5 years ago.
I am having a Laprascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH)
on Tuesday due to heavy bleeding from fibroids.
Believe it or not I am NOT having my ovaries removed.
Nor would I remove my breasts if my sister got breast cancer.
What I will do and have been doing all these years is having
annual CA125 tests (blood test for ovarian cancer) and pelvic sonograms
so the doctor can look at my ovaries.
I take this very seriously and will be vigilant the rest of my life due to my 5% greater risk of ovarian cancer with a family history.
I am sickened at how doctors routinley remove healthy organs from women.
They would NEVER take a man's testicles for no reason. But that is what they do to us.
Sometimes women must go through surgical menopuase but it is not the healthiest way to go.
(Carmen great article)
I also want to say PLEASE girls look into the LSH if possible. You'll have 3-4 tiny incisions, MUCH less pain, much less chance of infection and a 2 week return to work compared to a 6 week (apprx). many women don't even need pain meds after.
Also your tubes and ovaries remain in tact (if possible) and so does your cervix which helps prevent prolapse and urinary issues.
I am so thankful to have found a surgeon in my city who has perfromed thousands of these.

All my best

Question about keeping ovaries or not

I had my surgery on Monday and I am doing great!! I kept my overies and I am glad that I did. I feel so much better having that large uterus out of me. I wish that I have done this a long time ago. I am recovering now and hope to be up and at it soon again. I will post more later this week and tell my story.

You ladies take care
