6 days Post Op

Ok I am 6 days post op and still have not had a bowel movement. I had a Total Hyst with ovaries and tubes and cervix removed. I have been drinking beneifber but I have no urge at all to go except for some pains today. Is this ok? How long should I wait before I call my doctor?

Re: 6 days Post Op

Have you called your doctor for a suppository or an enema? My doctor prescribed both and I chose to do the suppository in the hospital. After that, I drank 2 cups of prune juice at once to keep me cleaned out. Other ideas other than the prune juice are warm apple sauce mixed with prune juice, senna tea, coffee, kiwis, prunes or dried apricots and anything that has fiber. Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water as all that fiber needs the water to keep things soft. More ideas are MOM or Miralax. I hope something suggested works.

Re: 6 days Post Op

It didn't matter how much fiber, water, prune juice, fiber tablets, stool softness I took, I was still constipated. Miralax has been the only thing that worked for me. Here's the thing - it takes a few days to work.

Good luck, I hope you get things moving fast.

Re: 6 days Post Op

I am in the same situation as you. I guess trial and error is the best way to go about it. I posted a similar question a few days ago. Miralax hasn't really helped me at all. Milk of Magnesia has and gas x for the cramping. One lady on my thread suggested using a stool to help during the bowel movement. It really does help. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: 6 days Post Op

It would be a good idea to give your doctor a call. If your passing gas that's a good sign that your bowels have at least woke up from the anesthesia but the pain meds cause constipation. If you go so long without having a bowel movement it can cause an impaction. If your not passing gas your bowels possibly may still be "asleep" from the anesthesia which is pretty serious....
