Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: Should I take my ovaries out?

I agree it is a personal decision whether to keep your ovaries or not. For some ladies, the choice may be an obvious one, such as for me where ovarian cancer runs in my family and I'd rather go ahead and have them out now. I had an Aunt die of ovarian cancer and I refuse to take the risk for myself, but that is my choice and my doctor left it up to me. But if you don't have a medical need to remove your ovaries, decide for yourself what you feel is best for you, and don't let your doctor or someone else persuade you. Do your research and make an informed decision, as others mentioned you can't put them back in....but if the need arises you can always have them out later. Best of luck to all ladies facing this decision!

Upcoming hysterectomy: Should I take my ovaries out?

Surgical menopause for me has been awful and I experienced issues with low estrogen despite using HRT and this triggered Bipolar II. I am currently so unwell that I'm an inpatient in psych care.
I had my ovaries out because of Lynch syndrome. However, if you were to ask my family which they would've preferred, they would say having a normal mum who would have died from cancer would've been better than watching their mum slowly fall apart with a mental illness.
Keep your ovaries if at all possible
