LAVH vs TVH vs TAH

Good Morning Gals

Are there guidelines (maybe webpages) somewhere that would give general information on all three procedures? Like who qualifies for which procedure, etc. I know that not all doctors do the LAVH yet since it's relatively new, but if the doctor does all three don't they have a guide to refer to so they know which woman can have one over another.

As for what the docs refer to when making their recommendations ... I would imagine they have so much experience treating all the different conditions and evaluating surgical options that they have a lot of this memorized.

Thank you Beth. I kinda like the LSH (Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy). Seems like it's only outpatient and I would be home healing faster. Then again...I seriously doubt my doc would let me keep the cervix because of the endo.

Hi Linda,

It's not unheard of for ladies with endo to keep their cervix, so be sure to ask about that and don't let your doc just dismiss this idea without fully explaining why he/she thinks your cervix should be removed ... if that is the recommendation.

Really? I'd like to keep as much as I can. The doctor did only say the tubes, ovaries and uterus would have to come out. He said nothing about the cervix at all. I think I'm going to be swimming in information before my November 5th appt.

This may sound funny, but I'm not worried about having the surgery or even the intial consult or the pre-op appointment. I more worried about making sure my hub's can stay home as long as his leave will allow so I'm not chasing rugrats all over the place.

Linda - (((Audrey))), another one of the Hostesses on this forum, had severe endo and a host of other problems too and she had a SAH - supracervical abdominal hyst. So she still has her cervix. It IS possible. So keep asking all those questions when you see your doc!

My poor doctor will be totally sick of me after my appt. Hehehehehehe! I've already started making a list of things to ask. My hub's will be there too so I want to make sure that he gets all his questions answered too.
