No limitation on tub baths??? TVH

Hey ladies!

Surgery is next Friday and I am a wreck!

After my pre-op with my doctor he told me there is no limiations on a tub bath for a TVH. I did some reading and some info I found supports this. However, other info says I should wait.

What do you think? I think I might wait anyway.

TIA!!!

to all of you going in this week.

I don't even remember having a conversation about a bath with my Dr. because I've always preferred showers. But the thought of one those first few weeks makes me cringe! But your Dr. is the expert, not us! I also had a TVH and am 5 weeks post op and so pleased with my recovery.Take it really slow those first 3 weeks.I think thats why I feel so good now is because I was truly treated like a Princess! Good luck!

I had a TAH not a TVH. My dr never told me anything about baths but I read on here not to have one until at least six weeks post op and only use plain water for a while until after your post-op check-up.

Each doctor is different. I was told no limitations after my TAH as well, and actually had TWO yesterday which helped tremendously with my restless legs. I just have DH squirt some vinegar around the tub and rinse well, then I hop in with some lukewarm water. Oops, did I say HOP? I meant gingerly lower myself with my amazing arm muscles...lol I then dry off with a towel and use a cool blow-dryer to dry my incision. I know that I wasn't allowed to have tub baths after my 2 c-sections, but she said that there isn't anywhere for the water to go this time since I have no cervix, so less risk of infection.

I say enjoy if you've been given the green light. Just don't use any bath salts or bubbles for a few months.

Hi Jennifer,

I was told by my doctor no baths until he released me to do so. He told me that I also couldn't go in swimming pools or hot tubs. My doctor told me it would be a risk of infection while I was healing. Every doctor is different that's for sure.

Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!

Yep -- each doc is different. I've read the entire gamut. I think each doc has his/her preferred methods, and they stick to them because they are familiar...

Follow what your doc recommends and you should do well.

Best wishes to you!
