Moving along in life

I had a total abdo hyster back on March the 12th and thought I would drop by to let you know how its been going with me. This forum was my lifesaver back in the early days, what with weird pains, bladders, bowels, was sex ever going to be normal again? There was always an answer for me here, I was not alone, there was always someone else who had been there, done that to help and I thank you all sincerely.

With the negatives of major surgery and not really being as mentally prepared as what I could have been (thought it was going to be breeze ) there have been plenty of positives.

1. Better relationship with spouse. He has always been supportive, but he definitely has got more cuddly and protective of me. It scared him a little that I could be so vulnerable. Plus I have grown so much appreciative of what he gives to our relationship.

2. Sex is back to normal, give or take my hormone fluctuations. But hey, think sexy thoughts for a while during the day and that helps

3. No periods! Yay!!!

4. Lost weight. I had been trying to lose 3 kilos for a couple of years to no avail. One hysterectomy and lost appetite for a while did the job! Having said that, my appetite is back but I am on a mission to not get above the weight that had been my goal for so long and its been easy to maintain.

5. I have remembered to now 'smell the roses' on a regular basis. I had not realised how busy I had made my life when I was forced to stop during those early recovery days. The house did not have to be spotless, I shut up my business (etsy) for a month and do you know what? The world did not cave in. (having said that, I am blessed that I do not have to provide the main income)

I have the odd day when I still get that weird kidney pain and insomnia attacks occasionally (hormones) but generally life is getting back on track with some improvements.

P.S on the note of 'thoughts are things' and 'what you talk about you bring about'. When someone asked me how I was feeling in those early days, I would refuse to talk about how shocking I felt (which indeed some days I did), I would say " I am getting better every day", because everyday I did feel a little better! It may have only been a tiny bit, but in some way there was always an improvement of some kind.

So love to you all, be kind to yourselves on your off days, but remember, you will get better every day, keep the faith. xxxx

Re: Moving along in life

What a great testimony! Thank you for sharing. I love the " thoughts are things and what you talk about, you bring about" saying. It's such a true statement. Having a positive outlook does not make everything better, but it sure make things seem a little easier.

I wish you continued success.

Lots of ((HUGS)) to you

Re: Moving along in life

What a nice update. I also found that I had been too busy making life perfect. I am enjoying the slower pace I was forced into. I miss the physical go go go , but am learning to like the sitting and watching the kids play and the sun set.

Re: Moving along in life

Love this! I have found my spouse to be a great support, too and our relationship has moved to a deeper level. My kids have also stepped up and been great especially since they've never seen me "down". A few days ago, I mentioned to my husband how much calmer life is at the moment and it is because I'm usually the one "driving the bus" on what our family does and with me being slow, our family is too. Not a bad thing!

Thanks for the lovely post.
