Sinus infection

I am worried. This moring I woke up with a stuffy head and sore throat. So did hubby. I have felt tired and achy all day and the pain in my head is awful. I am pretty sure this is a sinus infection. I just had one a month ago. It took 3 rounds of antibiotics to clear it. My question is will this postpone my surgery? Its 11 days away bit I am supposed to have the bloodwork in 2. What do I do?I don't even want to go in if theres a chance they will cancel this.

Sinus infection

I had a bad cold/flu 2 weeks before my op which went to a chesty cough so was worried it was gonna be cancelled just like you. My gp gave me a good strong dose of anti biotics for 10 days but I was still coughing a bit. At my pre-op, a week before princess day I told the gyn and asked that very question. They said that so long as it wasn't a severe cough, my chest was clear and no sign of infection it would go ahead. It did and I was still coughing a little. (but they did my obs meticulously prior to knocking me out!)

The worrying that it may be cancelled on top of the worrying that it's being done was tough and even as they put me to sleep it lurked in my mind! Also, (apparently "common practice" in UK!!), I was phoned the night before princess day and told it was cancelled as there wasn't a bed for me ....... only to get a call 1 1/2 hours later asking me to go to the ward (for 10pm that same night) to keep my bed for the next day!! I wish I knew what I was thinking when I was out cos I apparently asked if it had all been done when I first came round after the op!!! (I hope this little bit makes you smile)

I know a chest infection is somewhat different to sinuses but I'd like to think the same guidelines would apply to you. If you go along to your dr asap he may beable to give you something.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Sinus infection

Please *do* get it checked out. If you try to gloss this over and actually have an untreated infection, they *will* cancel your surgery the day of the procedure. There's good reason for this caution; that crud in your sinuses can travel to some very unpleasant places.

If you get on an antibiotic now (assuming it *is* an infection), let your surgeon know, and maybe they'll be able to go ahead on the scheduled date anyhow. They might also want some input into your antibiotic regimen.
