Question for the menopausal sisters please?
Hi I hope you can help me here! I had TAH and kept ovaries and then they went to sleep and I'm on HRT now and after some juggling I have finally slept better than I have for the last few years! I was always warm during the night and in fact kept my summer quilt on all year round and had a quilted throw that I doubled up and threw on DH's side of the bed in winter yet I was still having to have the windows open when it was cold. Poor DH was always cold and we slept as far apart as possible because he made me too warm. I suffered with severe insomnia after my TAH and when the hot flushes really kicked in at about 5-6 weeks post op I felt awful. After a few weeks the HRT started to work and eventually I started to sleep better than I have for the last few years. Now I'm wondering if I was starting the menopause early. I'm 43 now and since the HRT dose was upped I can't get over the difference in my sleeping and the fact that I'm not up and opening the windows wider half the night like I did before. I became really depressed with the continuous hot flushes all night that were nothing like the just being too hot during the night that I'd had before. I've no other way of knowing whether it was the menopause as I never thought much of it and my periods were practically all the time so there was no slowing down or pattern only an increase in the length and heaviness of them. Has this happened to anyone else because my GP wants me to wait a bit longer and then try without the HRT to see if my ovaries have recovered and now I'm scared about going back to the flushes, lack of sleep and total feeling of being so unwell. I was depressed that my ovaries stopped working when it was my choice to keep them and the thought that I could have been on HRT from the beginning would have helped speed my recovery. I never liked taking tablets but now I don't want to stop them! Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I wondered if anyone whose been through the natural menopause knows what I'm talking about here. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you xxx

Question for the menopausal sisters please?
Hello Summerscoming
I too kept my ovaries, even though I knew that I was already well into peri-menopause. My surgeon said that she left them in, as discussed, even though they were very very tiny. I was trying lots of different natural HRT's before the surgery, as anything with estrogen just made my migraines worse. I am 48 and my sister is 43 and she is already perimenopausal. I guess that I consider myself as menopausal now, and the hot flashes seem to have nearly disappeared, and I am usually sleeping better.
There is a really good book - you might be able to find it on the internet, or eBay or Amazon.com
It's called "The Hormone Survival Guide for Perimenopause" by Nisha Jackson Ph.D. This book is the BEST, and my sister agrees - it really tells things in language you can understand, and it lets you know that you are NOT crazy!!
If you are feeling well now, with the HRT, I'd probably stay on it - but you will have to discuss things with your surgeon.
Good Luck
C.

Question for the menopausal sisters please?
It could be...I had a very early natural menopause at 39 and before that I had experienced these symptoms. No one believed me at the time as I was so young, but I proved them wrong.
At least if your GP insists you come off it after a while and those menopausal symptoms return, you will know...and can go back on it again.
I had a year off - my choice - and all the most unpleasant symptoms returned. It was my GP who persuaded me to go back on it last year and I have never looked back.
Good luck..

Question for the menopausal sisters please?
Thanks for your replies! I am going to look for the book! Barbara when you came off your medication did your symptoms come back gradually or was it fairly quick - I just don't want to be going mad for 6 weeks and then it take that long to get back on tract and yet I want to live without medication if I can! Guess you can't have it all ways and I'll just have to give it a go Ugh! Take care x
