Disability Insurance in California

I was wondering if anyone out there in California or elsewhere can tell me how long it took for you to receive your first disability check. I was told that you are not allowed to send in the claim form until at least the 9th day after the date you last worked and that you don't get paid for the first 7 days you are out of work. They told me I would not get a check until 3 or 4 weeks after I filed my claim form. Just wondering what the average time it took for some of you to get your first check.

This is last thing I need to worry about with the upcoming surgery, but it actually worries me more than the surgery. Being out of work for so long and sooooo many bills and with disability paying much less than my normal pay, already living paycheck to paycheck it's all so worrysome!

Anyone else out there worried as much as I about this issue? I would appreciate any input from my sisters - you guys are the BEST!!!!!!!

Thanks and hugs to all!!!

the worry

I am so sorry that you have this to worry about when you are trying to stay calm and get the surgery over with. I don't know anything about disability, but just wanted to give you some positive strokes.

You could call some of the people you have to pay and explain to them you will be in the hospital and having surgery. Sometimes you can get some things deferred to take the pressure off.

You could also try a short term loan to get you through the tough times.

I have had many money worries in the past and it can ruin an otherwise perfectly good life!
