vitamins pre and postsop

Is it helpful to start taking a multivitamin before surgery?

If so what are some good multivitamins. I have never used vitamins and do not have a clue as to what to look for.

Also getting the ovaries out will I need to start taking calcium to prevent against osteoporosis?

Thanks so much for the help you all give. It is wonderful to come here to read what everyone else has to say.

Thanks again
Dumby

Hi!!!

I would definitely discuss these things with your doctor. Don't start taking multivitamins without talking to him/her. Many doctors want you to stop taking these sorts of things up to 2 weeks before your surgery.

I kept one ovary, so I don't know the answer to the calcium question. I'm sure someone will come along who can give an answer to that one.

Hang in there and HUGS!

I was told not to take any type of vitamin supplement until after the hyster. Then I took a strong womens multivitamin, once a day. I finished the bottle yesterday and happened to have an appt with my GP and she advised me to keep taking them until I have finished chemo, at the end of next month.
So I would check with your Dr.
Good luck - Glenys
