First Post-op checkup ~ what to expect?

My post-op (follow-up) check up is tomorrow. It's been 4 weeks since my LSH surgery.

What can I expect at this checkup? Anything that I really should ask about?

Only problem I've had is the spotting that won't quit.

Advice? OH! And should I ask for surgical and pathology reports? Did you???

First Post-op checkup ~ what to expect?

Definitely ask for the surgical and pathology reports.

For my first appointment, my doctor just looked at the incisions, took out the stitches (OUCH!) and asked how I was feeling. He started me on a progestin for hot flashes and Ambien for insomnia. That was really the extent of the first appointment. But my first appt. was at 10 days. So your doctor may do an internal exam. I think it really depends on your doctor.

At my six week check up, I asked if there was anything on the pathology reports that we weren't expecting. I got copies of the OR and pathology reports. I asked about when we needed to start worrying about having bone density tests done. The one question I was going to ask and forgot was if we should be testing my hormone levels. I also told him about the menopausal symptoms I was having and discussed when we should start estrogen replacement.

Good luck at your appointment tomorrow.

First Post-op checkup ~ what to expect?

My first post-op was at 4 days so just external exam of sutured spots and general questions. My second was at 3 weeks and I got an internal exam as well. Ditto for 5 week exam (this past Monday) at which time I was fully released. The internal exam wasn't painful at all for me. My doc was gentle but thorough. Best wishes ~

First Post-op checkup ~ what to expect?

The only post op visit I had was at 6 weeks which was last Thursday. My doctor did and external as well as an internal exam and answered questions. The exam didn't hurt, but was a little uncomfortable because of tenderness still. He said I still have lots of internal stitches which will take another 4 to 8 weeks to dissolve. I don't need to see him for another year unless I have some problems. I asked for copies of the surgery report and pathology report and he was happy to give them to me.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks, ladies. I'm really anxious to make sure that everything is going "okay". It always helps to know what to expect.
