TAH: What to expect post-op bleeding?

I'm having a TAH BSO...what is the bleeding like post op? I feel dumb asking...there IS bleeding, right?

Also on a related note, I can throw out my tampons right? As I'll never need them again???

Definitely trash the tampons. I had my TAH 7 days ago and I have no bleeding. I had it for the 1st two days and that was it.

Not everyone bleeds. I am going on 9 week post-op and never had a drop of blood. Next week I trash the pads and the granny panties! Yipeeeee!!!

I had a TAH BSO on 11/5. I had a very light discharge right after the surgery and for maybe 24 hours. Only needed a light pad. Since day 2, I haven't had any discharge, bleeding, etc.

Give the tampons to someone. As for pads, I say keep them. I'm 3 1/2 weeks and started bleeding a bunch the past day or so. You never know what might happen & I am so glad I had them!

I had light bleeding/discharge the first couple of days, then it quit...i was so happy...but then it started again. I wondered where it was coming from and my dr. said that sometime blood collects in your abdomen from the surgery and it needs to come out. The bleeding is not really "bleeding" as in fresh blood (gross-I know) but old blood/fluid. I have had that for about a week pretty heavy, and I am starting to stop...but i plan to keep the pads pretty close...i didn't expect it to start again...so i will be paranoid for a while. as for the tampons-yes-give them away. you can't use them post-op.

I had spotting off and on thru my 6 week recovery. It was never more than what a light-day pantyliner could handle and it never lasted for more than a day or so. It seemed to happen if I'd been more active than usual. I also had a little spotting after sex the 1st time but my dr. had cleared me and said to expect it.

I had a SAH BSO 6 weeks ago and other than a spot (really) the day after surgery, nothing, not a drip. It's wonderful not to bleed anymore!! Trash the tampons!

I did wear a pantiliner for the first week or so just in case, but never ended up needing them. But you don't know that in advance and better safe than sorry. Do bring some to the hospital - the pads they give you to wear are gigantic and I found them to be very bulky and uncomfortable.
