Re: Hysterectomy may have to be postponed - anesthesia options???
Okgo, I appreciate that info. I definately have no intention of being awake during the procedure and, if a spinal and sedation are an option, will question the doctors intensely on that subject! I find it interesting that some women seem to be awake and some asleep with sedation. I have a friend in another state who is an anesthesialosgist and we traded an few emails and she sounded line you wouldn't be awake. It must be a factor of how sedated you are and it sounds like different doctors do it differently. Good to know!
So far the prednisone is definately working but I can tell the inflammation isn't 100% gone, just improved. Still have 3 more days of it so we will see where it goes. My primary dr also have me a zpac, allergist didn't because there were no clear signs of infection but primary thought with surgery coming better to be safe than sorry. I called the surgeon (ob/gyn) to clear it and they agreed, said go ahead and take it. So, I guess it is just keep taking everything and proceed with house cleaning and such as if I am going in on Thursday. I hate this waiting game!

Keep in mind that full-out general anesthesia is not the only sedation option.
http://www.sgna.org/issues/sedationf...ionlevels.aspx has a nice table showing the different sedation levels and the physical effects of each.

I think I can tell you why you may be having a general anaesthetic. This may well be because they need to give you a special muscle relaxant during the procedure. This means that the anaesthetist will need to put an endotracheal tube down to help you breathe.
I would give your doctor a ring and ask him. In any case, I am a coward and I would not want to be around whilst they are beavering down below.
